Comments Thread For: Owen Upset With The Post-Fight Treatment of Carl Froch

A former England football international has hit out at boxing fans after they booed the defending champion after last Saturday’'s controversial refereeing decision.

Writing exclusively on Sportlobster.com former England football international, Michael Owen, criticised boxing fans for the negative reception they gave the IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion Carl Froch after the referee’s stoppage against George Groves.

Groves, the challenger, knocked down his opponent in the opening round, and led on all three judge scorecards going into the ninth, before Froch put together a series of good combinations and referee Howard Foster jumped in - a decision many observers felt premature.

It was quite strange to hear Froch getting boo'd and undeservedly so as well - so I'll agree with that.

I felt Froch was ungracious in his win. He didn't want to shake Groves' hand to begin with and put too much emphasis on how good the stoppage was. He also started calling out the crowd for not 'understanding' what the fighters are going through. Whilst it might be true for the majority of the crowd, it's not really the smartest thing to do.

He didn't deserve to be boo'd, but he should have just said it was a good fight and he'd like a rematch to prove that he was a deserved winner. He went on one of his long rants about the referee and himself to justify the stoppage.

He knew he drew a lucky one there, and it showed in the post fight interview. I wasn't impressed with him on the basis of that. And i've been a huge fan of his for most of his career.

The crowd boo'd based on the manner of the stoppage, they then boo'd Carl Froch's lack of class at the end of the fight. Refusing to shake a mans hand and acknowledge the epic display he put forward. Froch was quite simply a nob and that's why he got boo'd! Michael Owen can do one.....! go play with ur horses

Froch deserved to get booed,as he showed no sportsmanship after such a controversial ending to a fight that he had been taking an absolute drubbing in.

Nobody likes Froch, he is ugly, overly ****y, a clumsy boxer, utterly respectless and his plastic girl is only with him so she can shop at Harvey Nicks.
          There thats out

            Hell no!

You can diss Froch all you want to, but you're not trying to take a swipe at Rachel Cordingley! She's a scouse treasure.

With the exception of the bold - agree with all of the above.

'Rachel the Shrill'., Don't sit near her at any of Froch's fights, you run the risk of your fillings dropping out. It usually takes about 3or4 "c'mon Carl's and the process begins.

                  **** them.

That's what you get from band-wagon jumpers. They were there for Froch because he's always in exciting bouts, but best believe they will jump to the next guy with no hesitation. Hatton and a few others have genuine large fan-bases, the rest have mostly casuals who really aren't fans of the fighter, just what they want to see.

Froch took a beating early, walked through monster shots, started to turn it around, hurt Groves and stopped him.....boo the ref's decision? Fine. Boo Froch? **** off.

I hope Froch fight a Chavez, Ward or whoever next outside the UK.
