Comments Thread For: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: Weight and See - Redux

By Jake Donovan - The best reply for a fighter to navigate around questionable physique is to claim that he trained for a fight and not a body building contest.

That argument might work for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., if any portion of his career managed to fly under the radar.

The son of the Hall of Fame-enshrined former three division champ returns to the ring this weekend, marking his first fight in more than a year. The extended absence comes in part to testing positive for marijuana following last year’s decision loss to Sergio Martinez, aided by three more weeks due to a cut suffered during sparring last month. Therefore Arum is paying off middleweights in order to have them fight a drained light heavyweight Chavez Jr. Speechless.

Vera's trainer Ronnie Shields is pissed about this whole thing and doesn't want to let the fight go ahead unless Chavez Jr makes weight.

But will Vera's promoter stand up for him as well? Or will he side with his "good friend" Bob Arum?

Chavez, Jr. should fight at 175lb. They have someone waiting for him in Beibut Shumenov, who's a fighter just looking for a pay-day. If JCC, Jr. can't beat him, then just dump the lazy arse.

HBO planned to air three fights this Saturday night...

The super middleweight fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Brian Vera, and in the others: Adonis Stevenson will defend his light heavyweight belt against Tavoris Cloud from Montreal and heavyweights David Haye and Tyson Fury who were planned to fight in Manchester, England.

Now: the Haye vs Fury fight is off due to Haye's injury, and Chavez Jr. is incapable to make 168...

              claims to be working hard

says he can't make 168. will be overweight for this fight, and will weigh in on wednesday.

says he's open to a fight at 160 if the money is right.

              translation: he isn't working hard.

Chavez Jr. will eventually thrash out the little middleweight and the he will call out the guy in your avatar (Ward)... And I trust Ward will gladly take the "challenge" from such a derailed fighter ( as he did with Dawson)... It would be a pity not to...

                  Indeed^.

This situation is worthy of ridicule. He was fighting as a LHW at MW but has got too old to keep on draining, so now Arum putting up the $s so he can ignore the weight divisions altogether.

I can't see how anyone takes JCC Jr seriously after this. He'll probably be well into cruiser territory on fight night. He probably coulda been pretty good if he'd taken the sport seriously, but I guess he'll never fight a live body with less than a 15-20lb weight advantage.

Must be nice having a famous daddy.
