I know Ray Mancini was never the same, there was a documentary on him and he stated that he often visits the grave of Duk Koo Kim.

    That **** taxes your psyche....

If you killed someone in a car accident and the crash wasn't your fault, would you stop driving?
It's boxing and the risk is very real.

He seems to be handling it well..... must think that it's the risk of the job. Every fighter say they're willing to die in the ring... best mean that against Kovalev.

His a bum, I haven't heard of him so he can't be that successful. Is he even a C class fighter?

it's boxing; people get hurt and yes even killed sometimes
why would Kovalev lose his heart for being good at what he does?
no reason for him to give up his job because he's done damage
that kind of rep helps a fighter's career

It was an accident. It must be hard to live with it, some people are able to move on and some aren't. I hope he has a successful career, he and his opponent know about the risks involved in a sport like boxing.

If you think about it, you need to have a killer instinct to even box at all. You are basically there to inflict punishment and hurt on someone else. I often wonder how boxers rationalise this - maybe because it's a regulated sport and the other guy is coming after you too.

But even if I was the prodigiously talented fighter ever, I don't think I could become a boxer.

I disagree that he should retire.Boxing is a dangerous sport and a fatality is always possible. All boxers know there is a risk they could be hurt or kill every time they fight. Many famous fighters have caused the death of one of their opponents and not a single one of them retired because of it.Emile Griffith, Ray Mancini, Ray Robinson, Ezzard Charles and Max Baer all caused the death of one of their oponents. They felt terrible about it. They were heart broken over it.But every one of them continued their boxing career and kept knocking fighters out.Kovalev was in church for hours every day praying for the guy to live. Kovalev retiring won't bring him back to life.GGG and Matthysse are even more brutal punchers for their weight than Kovalev. Should they retire for fear of killing an opponent? How about Wilder or Maidana? Sometimes average punchers have killed opponents. It's a dangerous sport.

Knowing he has that concussive KO power, don't you think it'd be in his head that what if he did it again? The chances are that he prob. wont do it again, but you never know, and that thought has to be somewhere in the back of his mind.

I would think after a tradgedy like that happened many boxers would quit. How about you guys, if you were in Kovalev's shoes, could you continue boxing and continue knocking guys out? How would you feel?
Didn't know that but Boxers know the risk when it happens. There is the commission, the corner, the fighter and ref that need to make the right call during the fight.

Ray Robinson had actually had a nightmare the night before a his fight vs Jimmy Doyle. HE dreamed that he killed the man with a thunderous punch and told the promoters that he didn't want to fight. He told them about his dream and then the promoters brought in a priest to convince him to do it. He finally agreed and he Jimmy Doyle did end up dying.

Robinson felt terrible and knew Doyle was fighting to buy his Mom a house so Robinson gave up his purse for his next 4 fights to Doyle's Mother.
