The Vice President of Showtime, Stephen Espinoza, would love to have Adrien Broner (27-0, 22KOs) defend his WBA welterweight title against Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31KOs) in the fall. Broner captured the title last month with a split decision over Paulie Malignaggi in New York City. The match draw a very high 1.3 million viewers on Showtime.
Following last month's fight, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who promotes both Broner and Maidana, said he was ready and willing to make a match between his two fighters, but he won't start the negotiations until Broner indicates that he plans to remain at 147-pounds. Broner, still the WBC champion at 135, moved up by two divisions for Malignaggi. He might remain at 147 or go down to 140-pounds.
