In hindsight, Pacquiao should have fought Cotto at 147. But, Pac never fought a full-fledged welterweight before Cotto. Fighting Oscar at 147 was more of a "catchweight" fight because both fighters had to move up or down. Dela Hoya was then a true 154 pounder and Pac just moved up to 135 and only fought at that weight once. And Dela Hoya was a HEAVY betting favorite against Pac.

Floyd forcing Canelo to fight at 152 makes ZERO sense. Especially since he's fought full-fledged 154 pounders twice before. He fought Oscar and Cotto at their comfortable weights.

This fight sucks. That boy will drain weight at a young age. He can do it of course, but his natural power will be gone.

This may very well be one of the most compelling, well researched, and thoughtfully put arguments I've ever seen put forth on this website.

          Kudos, sir.

Against Oscar he didn't have the leverage to force a catchweight, but with Cotto he could have made him come down to 152 if he really though he was a threat. He knew Cotto was damaged goods so weight wasn't an issue.
The fact that he is looking for every edge he can (he also called the shots on ring and glove size as well) shows he know that Canelo is a threat.
With that said I don't think the weight will mean that much. Canelo will re hydrate to a proper amount between the weigh in and the fight. Canelo's best chance is to catch Floyd early and break him down to the body. One thing Oscar did do well is take advantage when Floyd is forced to the ropes and corners. Even if your not hurting him your scoring.
Will be an interesting fight and Floyd deserves credit both for fighting this soon after May 5th and for taking on this challenge.
Win or lose Canelo will be more popular and will come out with no damage.
STFU if you don't know what you are talking about, Floyd did not call the shots on ring size and glove size vs Cotto..they used 10oz gloves because Cotto thought it would give him more protection as he holds his hands up in front of his face as his defense....Floyd usually fights with WW 8oz gloves but went to 10oz for this fight....and the ring was same size as all jr middleweight fights
So please stop spewing sh..it that you don't know what you're talking about

LOL If Floyd fights Manny he'll insist on 154 claiming he cant get any lower then that and his idiot fans like Reloaded will be in here backing him up.

You couldn't possible fail any more miserably than with your feeble-minded comparison! The definition of a Hypocrite is someone who acts in contradiction to stated beliefs and puts on a false appearance of Virtue, IE Floyd saying "I'M NOT THE TYPE OF GUY LIKE PAC IS WHO WEIGHT DRAINS A FIGHTER, I WANT A FIGHTER AT HIS NATURAL WEIGHT, I FEEL COTTO IS STILL UNBEATEN". If you want to find a PROPER comparison then find a quote where Canelo USES THE MEDIA to insult a fighter for not dropping down in weight. And that still doesn't make you Flom's and Floyd look any less dumb for all the hissy fits about how Pac drains a fighter and then your sweetheart hero does the same damn thing. You are dismissed. Go. Leave.

Someone please explain this to me...Why is Mayweather getting flack for fighting Canelo at 152 when it was Canelo who asked for the CW ..... BUT Manny ain't gettin no flack for asking Rios for random drug testing.. WTF ARE YOU ****IN SERIOUS?? Is this the same guy against Mayweather said 1) let the commission do their job 2) I'm afraid of needles 3) giving blood drains me 4) that was the reason I lost to Morales BUT now he's asking Rios for random testing, what a ****IN hypocrite!!!!

Guess you have been in deep coma and didn't get the memo. Pac agreed to full USADA/WADA Testing in January 2012. There are articles everywhere where it shows he agreed. Why the hell do you think Floyd personally called him on the phone to negotiate a split????? Because they got past the testing demands and agreed. Damn, you missed a lot of news being in a Coma. And FYI - Floyd DEMANDED the lower weight. Canelo never agreed to a lower weight in negotiations but Floyd made the demand. And Genius, did you forget the part about Floyd saying "I want a fighter Comfortable at their weight, as far as I'm concerned, Cotto is still unbeaten". Which means, so will Canelo be according to Floyd's own statements. You missed a lot while in a Coma. I get that.

Why would he want to fight Pac anyway, Pac is coming off two losses, (3 technically but only 2 officially) and one where he was brutally knocked out, and on top of that Pac refused random testing against Mayweather but he is employing it against Rios...F.U.C.K Pac that is the biggest hypocritical thing he could have done is to deny the world of a great fight because he refused random testing then turn around and demand it against another opponent...what a P.U.S...S.Y
