Why would they need damage control to counter a false rumor spread after every Floyd Mayweather fight?

If this was SteveKim giving those numbers out I would take it with a grain of salt, but Fat Dan and Kevin work for legit big companies and have released similar estimates before fights that were close to accurate.

Just like when they said Pacquiao vs Mosley did over 1 million buys, or when the Oscar vs. Flyd fight broke 2 million.

LOL at Fat Dans response to Espinoza and showtime
No numbers were ever released on Pac/Mosley, so they were simply reporting what Arum told them. If you think Pac/Mosley broke 1 million PPVs, I have a bridge I want to sell you.

PPV NUMBERS HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED BY THE NETWORK ON ANY PAC FIGHT SINCE the Margrito fight. All the numbers have come from Lying Bob.

Regardless, if anyone took the hit there it was Arum. Here's Showtime boxing taking a massive hit, possibly like 1/2 their annual budget!

With $30 mill going to the TV and Cable Companies and $10,mill at the gate (assuming that it was a REAL figure, (not inflated by the promoters just paying the $6 seat tax) making a $40 mill gross take (not counting theatres which historically isn't much) from which approx all taxes would amount to 42%. This would leave $24 mill, from which Mayweather's $32 mill, Guerrero's $3 mill, plus the undercard, plus the Promoter's cut of about 25%, leaving a deficit of about $25 mill.

I don't know where the various cuts are from the gross or the net and I haven't counted the theatre revenue nor the souvenirs and sundries, both of which I believe to be comparatively small. Whichever way it is, unless there is "imaginative accounting", it looks to be a huge loss.
Another point, in the Showtime-Mayweather contract, Showtime would be foolish not to have included a 'contingency" clause, where the purse would take into consideration a poor result. At the same time, Mayweather would be equally foolish is he didn't insist on being paid regardlesss of the "outcome of the income"...And the whole "$30 mill" payday might be subject to-almost CERTAINLY would be-all sorts of "whereas-es".... $30 mill in REAL money isn't earned so easily by ANYONE.... but it always makes wonderful PR.

In my experience, only ONE professional athlete offered to pay back his fee when the gate was poor. That was tennis star Bill Tilden, about 75 years ago.
You got a very solid point. But taxes are not calculated from the gross. Taxes are determined after all related and allowable expenses are deducted. They might get a deferred tax asset for future periods with that significant loss. But they are not separate en******, so it will just help Show taxes.

Floyd wont like the results. From his $32M he gets deducted over $12M for IRS. He is not getting any more revenues from the PPV, because there is no Profit to split and he will have to pay from his pocket to his fighters and the % invested in the fight promotion.

I expect Kevin Iole to go out of his way to discredit anything concerning, Mayweather.

You base this claim on the word of a professional blogger, who based his info on anonymous sources (aka Bob Arum) and you expect to be taken seriously?

I dunno, assuming this is right. I know both Iole and Rafael are reliable, probably the 2 highest profile guys around. Chances are they took a hit, but how big is the question. If these estimates are right, that's a ridiculous hit, it cripples Showtime Boxing, and GBP as well.
