Are Fighters Smart Enough to Sell Themselves?

Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather have all left Bob Arum's Top Rank Promotions and as Top Ticket Sellers have done well for themselves. Is that bad for the establishment or smart business? Are Boxers smart enough to do their own business?

Bad for the promoitonal company good for the individual fighter but not every fighter is a oscar or floyd. It good for the individual as they get to keep most of the profits for themselves and bad for the establisment cause with out PPV fighters they can put their next talent on the undercard to get them that exposure.

if the fighter has the right style, meaning it's crowd pleasing, no need for promoters, the fight will sell itself

Manny is not very bright, he is a fighter in every sense. His style of fighting, which is reckless, is also his way of thought. He's a good guy of course, he's obviously a family man, being dumb in a business sense doesn't mean you're dumb overall. He's a good guy but he does not make very smart business decisions as you can see with the whole TR/GBP double signing, and never leaving Bob Arum to market himself and make his own brand.

DLH was smart enough to get Richard Schaefer to do all of his work, while he just does the talking. Mayweather was smart enough to hook up with a powerful man like Al Haymon. Cotto is now by himself and can now work with GBP and Al Haymon. Pacquiao, is going to be 34 soon, as is still with Arum despite seeing the three previous TR fighters who left and immediately got bigger paydays after leaving.

Why would fighters sell themselves? Hookers dont make much money and also catch STDs

As long as Bob Arum has that guy advising Pac he will never leave TOP Rank.

There comes a time in a fighters career when you do not need a promoter to dictate your careers.

some fighters just dont have to sell themselves , they are exciting enough that people love them..tyson hoya, pac , cotto, etc

floyd needed to put so much effort becuase he is boring...without it he'd be just like bhop selling 600 seats

filipinos are very backwoods people, believe in a lot of voodoo type bull**** and arent advanced thinkers when it comes to money. Poochiao just signs whatever papers are put in front of him.

Even the judge in his defamation lawsuit said that his lawyers were ripping him off and charging him nearly double the standard hourly rate. Floyd had to pay it anyways because he skipped out on court dates but the judge was quite clear in his warning to pooochiao which of course fell on deaf ears.
