Actually hes fought 8 times in the last 6 years to dismiss your rediculous estimation of his supposed lack of activity due to being a "coward". Also Mayweather's prime is really about 2001 to 2006 but definitely not 2006 to 2012 years you speak of.
What you don't seem to know is the "Fact" that Floyd considered retirement after the Judah fight in March of 2006. He later announced in the post fight conference of his win over Baldomir(Nov. 2006) that he only intended to fight 1 more time before officially retiring. That one time being(May 2007) against De la Hoya the current WBC light middleweight champ. He announced his retirement after defeating Oscar.
Once he saw that he could still do well with PPV sales in his return that same year (Dec.2007) against Hatton. I believe he then began to see that he didnt need to fight multiple times per year when he could still make 40 million plus per fight after Purse and PPV revenue were totalled.
He fights usually once a year as a promotional tool to convince the casual fans that hes lost a step and that they may be about to witness his first loss the next time he fights. It has worked thus far putting him ahead of his rival Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao by more 20 million dollars without endorsements in their last two bouts on Forbes mags last fiscal year.
Sorry for the long post but I feel an obligation to correct and fully explain the truth when people make senseless comments downing someone out of emotion without any real facts to back it up..
