I slightly favor Sergio, but I gotta admit it would be amusing as hell to come here after the fight if Chavez wins, given the incredible amount of hate Jr gets around here.

Jr will win, can't see martinez hurting him with anything. Jr will walk right through him and punish him like margarito did.

If Sergio can't hurt him Chavez will drown him. I have real money on it too. Can't believe I'm thinking this, never thought I would, but it's just the way I'm leaning.
What makes Jr. more threatening than Pavlik or Williams? Martinez is tough, he has shown it before. Jr. is not a big puncher. I see flaws in Martinez, Chavez just isn't the one to expose them.

I'm still not really sure where the Chavez hype has come from. Was it from beating Lee and Rubio? You look at fights like this where one guy hasn't fought anything close to the speed or skill of the other guy and it always ends badly.

Many believe the hype for Martinez .... yet he hasn't been a world beater either!!!!

And look at his most recent wins since pavlik .....

Pavlik .... beat-down didn't start until the bad cut compromised his vision
Williams .... shouldn't have been at the weight.
Dzinziruk .... only recognizable name on his resume is Joel Julio
              Barker ....
              Macklin ....

Yeah, for some reason Jr. actually started getting quite a bit of hype after the Andy Lee fight. Suddenly he was a real, dangerous middleweight and more of a challenge than we thought he would be for Sergio. The Lee fight proved he's better than we thought, but how much better? It was a tiny ring. He still was losing the fight, and he practically never threw or landed a jab. Obviously "he was losing the fight" isn't exactly fair because it could have simply been Jr's plan to KO Lee, but I really don't think Chavez has the skills to actually win rounds against a guy like Sergio.

He's also not a big KO puncher like you mentioned. I don't see him as being more dangerous than Pavlik. Pavlik was also huge, a better technician, and a strong puncher. He got pretty well dominated by Martinez for most of the fight. If Pavlik couldn't pin Martinez on the ropes, not sure how Chavez Jr. will unless he gets the benefit of a tiny ring, ala Lee fight. Even then, Sergio's a brilliant mover.

IMO Sergio has literally everything going for him in this fight. It will take something we have not seen from Chavez in order to win. I just don't see it happening as long as Sergio shows up to fight smart and is at the top of his game.

Dude, Williams got smashed in the face with a big shot he was constantly open for. Martinez hit him with the left several times before landing the KO shot. It had nothing to do with the weight.

You can also make excuses for Pavlik, but he got cut up... that's part of the game. Bad luck on his part, but don't use that to take away from Sergio.

Barker is good and Macklin is as good as anyone Jr. has fought - although Andy Lee may be on a similar level. However, Lee's style turned out to be a perfect match for Chavez, especially in a tiny ring.

You also forget that Chavez has arguably lost fights against B level fighters in recent years, like Zbik. Zbik outlanded the kid by like over 100 punches. Who has Sergio lost to? His most recent losses are questionable.

In the Williams fight, it had everything to do with a fighter fighting in a class that is too big for him. Williams moved to MW because he couldn't get the fights he wanted in his natural weight class .... this isn't fabricated, it is a well known fact. Williams had absolutely no power at MW and that was his major disadvantage, because he was going after guys that had power at MW.

Pavlik was doing very well until, and I say again, until he got that bad gash over the eye and from that point on, he couldn't even see the punches coming because of the constant blood-flow INTO THE EYE. So, it was all target practice from that point on ..... Sure Martinez did what any fighter would do in that situation "Target the damaged eye" and it got him the "W". Nothing spectacular, nothing out of the ordinary and really nothing special.

I won't even mention the other characters in the mix with Williams and Pavlik, because it would be an enormous stretch to even make them competitive on the "B-side" of boxing.

But here's the thing that undermines the the whole argument and defense, outside of Williams and Pavlik, .... what is Martinez's claim to fame?

You would be hard-pressed to name QUALITY, ELITE opponents that he's beaten. I'm not saying that Martinez isn't a Good-Great fighter, I just don't see where he's the WORLD-BEATER everyone's making him out to be.
