Robinson was great enough to duck any black man who challenged him and pile up a impressive record beating really slow white guys. But based on that can't every fighter be as good as Robinson?

How great was he? I could certainly make a case that Langford was the much better p4p fighter. Unfortunately, there is ZERO footage of Ray at welterweight so I cannot judge him as fairly as others. 1900-1920 fighters generally should be OUT of the picture as there aren't much footage around to properly judge.

From what I've read and seen I judge Sam Langford to be the best p4p fighter. You could certainly make the case that Robinson is the best, but my opinion leans a little towards Langford.

thats the thing, ray was never defeated at welterweight, and people can make an argument that ray was the best middleweight ever, if someone can be the best in a divsion in which is 2 weights above there natural weight just think of how good he was at welter

I have a video tape where there was in interview that Ali gave during his title days, not sure the exact year where he said

"I am the greatest heavyweight of all time and always will be but pound for pound Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest fighter of all time"

IMO if Ali says SRR is the greatest ever then he is.

Oh man, I just posted a short minute and a half clip of Robinson's WELTERWEIGHT title defense against Charley Fusari, which you can still find on the previous page. There's also at least known footage that exists of Robinson vs. Angott from his Welterweight days.
