He's rated properly by most, but I simply don't feel like he deserves all the hype he gets, given that he hasn't done much (same goes for Broner and a bunch of others). He might just be a pawn in a chess game, doesn't mean he won't get heat for the one always being in a favorable position. I'm fully behind Lopez on this one, as I usually back up the underdog anyway. But, I want Lopez to win that much more because he has the chance to completely ruin GB's plan. Who's gonna look at Canelo the same if he loses or if Lopez makes it close and highly competitive? I can only use the "eye test" for so long to justify him being GB's pet project before I can't fool myself anymore. Sure, he looks like the real deal. Explosive, has stopping power, puts punches together well and seems very mature in the ring. But, who has he fought? Was he an underdog in any of his 154lb fights? Why has he only fought one true JMW? Why couldn't he put Hatton away? Why does he have a low work-rate, does he have a stamina issue? IMO, rooting for Canelo is the equivalent to accepting and encouraging GB's match-making.

As long as he keeps fighting WWs, I have the right to b!tch and complain. Once he starts fighting the best 154lb guys (not named Cotto/Mayweather), I will shut the **** up lol

hype in boxing rarely stems purely from what's done in the ring. none of that has anything to do with saul alvarez. he's a charismatic mexican with red hair. the

    and on the bold :

why will you be dissapointed if he fights floyd and cotto, homie? dont you want to know what he's made of?

you dont want to see him get paid without "earning it," i take it?

surely you'll find out what he's made of eventually. most professionals are nowhere near the radar at 22. canelo has 40 + fights and is in the top 10.

I smell bull****. How can he be signed and sealed but was able to pull out/overprice himself?

the fight was signed, but it doesn't have to be. fighters usually dont sign contracts until much closer to the fight. there's always something that has to be worked out. in business you do what's called "agreeing to terms" you put the pieces in motion with the intent that they express your willingness and ability to move forward. that's usually the way most fights work, and rarely on those lines (that a contract is not physically signed,) is the fight held up. in other words, even if it's not signed, it doesnt have to be. they agreed to the take the fight.

he pulled out because of an injury. he clearly was not ready to be back in the ring after his surgery. he was pressured because the date was already set for september 15.

or, if your a consipiracy theorist ( ,) he was cleared while unfit by an illegitimate doctor to make it appear as though goldenboy was trying to match canelo tough. there would be a clause in the contract somwhere with a stipulation that allows a fighter to pull out if he's injured and can prove it. i've never seen a fight contract (they're highly protected documents,) but i know my way around a contract and a fountain pen

they're essentially all the same. your job, and more importantly the job of your lawyer, is to cover your bases and protect you intersests. in this case, being able to pull out of the fight if there's an injury was a base that would have been covered in the contract.

hell, if we want to go all out on the conspriacies, we can just say that goldenboy ran williams off of the road.

canelo was scheduled to fight kirkland and kirkland got hurt, homie. it sucks, but that's what happened.

kirkland will probably get hurt down the line again with an injury like a shoulder, considering his style in sparring, training, and his fights.

He's already being lined up to fight them without much to show for it first, already being touted as the next PPV attraction. He's being built-up and has been put on a collision course with Mayweather. You even had fans arguing about Floyd fighting Cotto instead of Canelo lol. He's been on my radar for only 2 years and all of a sudden he's a worthy opponent? He wants to skip an entire class of fighters (Kirkland/Trout/Lara/Vanes/Molina/Rosado) to fight the king of the mountain, and he'll probably get the opportunity based on his star potential/drawing power. GB is doing their job well, but as a fan watching all this unfold, it's just a bunch of face-palm moments. I'm aware that bringing up fighters like this is nothing new, but it's still bull*****.

Hey, the way **** works in this country I'd never put it past them.

Idk man, I was high on Canelo. I liked how poise he was in that ring and he showed experience despite being so young. But first it was supposed to be Mayorga then they switched to Lopez. Come on man, I'd prefer the 200th ranked guy (whoever that is) at 154 over Lopez. So yea, that did it for me. I know matchmaking is out of his hands (I think?) but he has to have some type of say...

Canelo is a champion, he's also a promoter. I refuse to believe that he is not a fan of boxing. He definitely had a "say so" in who his opponent is going to be. Fighting a guy that fought at 140 two fights ago is just wrong. Especially when Josesito didn't even make 147 when he fought Ortiz. There's no sense in arguing about why his potential opponents fell through; but if they wanted to cherry pick and didn't want one of the other top 10 in JMW, they could have at least taken one of the top 20 JMW's. I like Canelo and I root for him, so don't think I'm a hater. But, fighting a JWW while his competitor (Chavez Jr.) is fighting the lineal Middleweight king is kind of embarrassing. I can't logically see the justification for this fight and I'm just stating my unbiased opinion. I expect more from Canelo and I would like to see him unify a couple of the paper titles soon.
