Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder Prepared For Whatever Comes His Way

By Jake Donovan - At the time the fight was booked, it appeared to be just another show on the schedule. For the first time in years, boxing boasted a full lineup in August, in addition to the Summer Olympics.

Three key injuries later, Deontay Wilder suddenly has the stage to himself.

The unbeaten heavyweight takes his talents to the Gulf Shores, as he faces Kertson Manswell this weekend in Mobile, Alabama. The bout airs live on Fox Sports, marking Wilder’s debut as a network headliner, which has become a big deal in his home state.

“Everyone is excited about a live international broadcast in Mobile,?exclaimed Jay Deas, who has guided Wilder’s career from the first time he donned a pair of boxing gloves more than seven years ago. “It’s been almost 30 years since live boxing on TV has come out of Alabama.

“We hope the TV crew loves Deontay and want him back in 30 days, not 30 years!?br />
Wilder has been fun to watch in his four years as a pro. His 23 knockouts in as many fights fits perfectly in line with Golden Boy Promotions?“no judges needed?tagline that seems to surround all of their events as of late. [Click Here To Read More]

Hopefully whatever comes his way next is a decent opponent.

Chagaev wasn't able to knock out the guy Wilder is fighting. If Deontay can stop him that will say a lot about his development and the level he is at. Let's see what happens.

wilder needs to start stepping it up. manswell is a C level fighter at best. he has lost all 5 fights against opponents with heartbeats. don king has gotten this guy some decent fights. stiverne, ustinov, boswell, chagaev, prizefighter tournament & now wilder. manswell went the distance with chagaev & boswell so this is not a guaranteed knock out waiting to happen. i don't see wilder losing to this guy because all 22 of manswell's wins are vs tomato cans. he beat owen beck(C level now)& now faces manswell(C level). some other names he should look to fight are johnnie white & raphael butler. you beat them then look to the C+ guys like pajkic, firtha, fields, quezada & gavern. if you can beat those type of fighters then look to the B level.

not really, Chagaev is old and hadn't stopped anybody in 6 years, this is another walkover for detony.

The main reason they build up Wilder so slowly is because they want him to have his first title-shot when both Klitschkos are retired. Manswell is a step up for Wilder but only a small one. IMO Mitchell is the better american prospect and he would stop Wilder.

Wilder had the ref in his pocket for his last fight on Fox Sports, which was hands down the worst stoppage I have ever seen. I'm hoping for a real fight this time around, regardless of how legit Price is, please don't stop this one on the first glancing blow Denote lands

if Wilder can't get by this inept guy, his careers in jeopardy, a guys that's lost 5 of 7, tko'd in his last bout...terrible bout, but that's the condition of the division...

Not very convinced by this opponent, but it could be people don't want to fight him given he can take out tomato cans easily. The first decent guy to land the money shot on his chin though...
