Victor did the right thing against Lopez. It was a smart choice.

Boxing still has its fair share of neanderthal followers, I guess...

I agree man. Dudes mouth was filling up with blood because of a ruptured vein, along with a broken jaw. I've seen guys quit from lesser injuries. All this AA had 22 screws & 2 plates stuff. Good for him. He also was in ICU for days because of it. I'm no Ortiz advocate by any means, but give the guy a break (no pun intended).

MMA they tap out ?? Why QUIT instead of taking the killing or the bone broken.

I am as old school as they come, but in my OLD age I am mellowing out mang.

bleeding out is losing yer LIFE

this is still a sport, and we love gameness, but we don't need dead gameness ,,,,do we ? LOL I mean dead gameness is in a certain critter not in a human,,,or is it ?

Valid points. Aint hating on you for them! Some like Ali Marciano Abraham Jones The fighters who fought with broken bones cuts...People like Arturo Gatti...and so on...They were warriors at best, with the never quit attitude. We are not in the Gladiator days anymore but the term still lives on in Boxing that we will fight until the end. The end is explained to you every time before the first bell. We have an end now so we dont fight to death. Rules! Doctors to stop it Refs that stop it. Corners who throw in the towel. But in no way should a fighter quit on his own or his stool for any reason!

Ortiz is a quitter. Don't you guys remember the Maidana fight? He said he wanted to live til his old days so stop while ahead. Then on the post conference he said he had a broken left hand. Why didn't he say that earlier? Dude quit.

LOL,,,boy I can feel a storm brewing agin me mang,

I will gladly step out on the nice proverbial limb and say his heart didn't quit but he made an intelligent decision to stop and take care his life that it not oooooze out unto DEATH. LOL

So how far does a man go before we call it : QUITTING ????

In certain critters , bones are broken and their rich life's blue blood ooozes out or flows but a few refuse to quit but rather take their death,,,very few !

are humans to do the same ?

I have watched a few MMA,,,don't care for it and seen them all jacked up ready to KILL but then get into a little HOLD and some bone is in jeopardy and they tap out,,,, LOL

Then you look back at fighters like JOE FRAZIER and ALI who took it ALL and never quit, some talked about Ali wanting to ,,,LISTON,, the left hooker from England and the thrilla in Manila but he didn't QUIT

Our sport is nothing period compared to real life war situations, like the one my dad was in WAR 2,,,,Vietnam, Afghanistan , I mean get real mang

I am going to stay on the limb and pull for ORTIZ to pull up the boot straps and go straight to the top or fall with him.

I'm not defending Ortiz here, but I will say that not all broken Jaws are the same. Some break clean and go numb. Some break badly and can press on a nerve or fragments can be sharp and keep digging in causing severe pain. Sometimes they can cause bad enough internal (not External) swelling that can cut off blood supply to the brain.

It is not as simple as "Ali Did it", or "Abraham did it". A broken jaw is a severe injury. I would not have an issue with them having a mandatory stopping fight clause when a fighter suffers that kind of injury. They will do it for a cut

After all those uppercuts he was eating, it was a pretty brave effort.
no he stopped the fight Danny Garcia was urging him to go on

lol...true indeed. Not all tap out though. I cant stand MMA and maybe watch one or two a year if that! Something about rolling around in tightie under wear just make me feel uncomfortable. Just not for me...they can tap alll they want. Real fighters dont quit.

even the great Eric Morrals had enough dignity to look at his corner and signal he couldnt go on. He let them know and let them stop the fight.

                    Ortiz pulls a Andrew Golota!

I like what you said mang, I also think the doctor should realize a broken jaw and get in the ring to stop the fight for anyone, but I have never seen that,,,oops maybe in the Abe fight ???

Maybe I feel sorry for him and want the best for the kid. I see some potential that needs to come out and all the negative to leave.

I will have to see some more fights to lock down and say he is a quitter.

Some old timers back 40 years ago when a certain sport was not a felony but a misdemeanor got caught in a trap when they believed their quitter would not quit again but it did.

ORTIZ did quit in the Maidana fight, this may or maynot haunt him the rest of his life, its left up to him.

He needs to erase LOPEZ and MAIDANA and proceed on
