why does is it that he jumps hard like he's flying whenever he shoots his jab?

i'd have to look closer at some tape to go into more depth but i'd guess that some of the awkwardness with his step into his jab would come from the fact that he's a converted left hand fighting right handed.
he's pushing off of his right foot to jab, but he's left handed.

this ^
hagler would use it to hook off of the jab too.
and of course if the jabs werent landing he could switch stances...

He uses a drop step and that's why his jab has more pop behind it than most.
However for a guy like Floyd who's so intelligent in the ring it will probably make Cotto's jab easier to telegraph as well.

Originally posted by savorduhflavor View PostAbsolutely. Floyd's gonna have that jab completely nullified after like 3 rounds when he gets his timing down. Either right over the top of it or like you said, right outside of it with the right hand. Floyd will just take it right away.

Pacquiao took Cotto's jab away by beating Miguel to the punch with his lead left and countering over the jab with his right hook. When he tried to jab with Cotto he was losing.
Now obviously Floyd's a much better jabber than Pac but he doesn't need the jab to beat Cotto...shoot that straight right and Cotto won't bother jabbing anymore.
