I always thought of it as his speed neutralizer
He's slower than many of his foes at the top level, so this allows him to offset their speed advantage until they're slowed down for him to get to him. Plus he has shorter reach than most, especially in and around his weight class
It works well for him

From my own personal experience... I'd say its becuz he's both short and an inside-fighter by nature...
I'm same situation, I'm short, and I'm more of an infighter, so my jab has a lot more behind it than someone like De La Hoya... It just doesn't always feel right throwing a punch without bad intentions... Especially a single shot (combinations may be thrown a bit weaker)Last edited by JDezi4; 04-17-2012, 11:45 PM.
