The kicker in all of this will be if the deal includes the security folks not being able to sue him in civil court which is much easier to get a conviciton in. You know how many people plead guilty to stuff they didn't do because the time they facing against the time being offered for the plea is just to good to take a chance on? Think about it he was facing 34 years now with the plea he facing 0-18 months max. Taking the plea makes sense and it keeps his kids from having to get on the stand. Think pass go sometimes
