Alex Leapai is recovering from injury sustained in Boytsov fight
Alex Leapai, the No. 1 contender for the world title, is recovering from a torn right calf he suffered in the seventh round of his victory over previous world heavyweight contender, Denis Boytsov, in Germany last month.
While he battled through the pain to score a comfortable points decision the injury was so severe he needed a wheelchair to leave Brisbane airport on his return.
A specialist, Dr S. Geffen, told The Courier-Mail that Leapai was undergoing a process called "deep- water running'' as part of his regime to be 100 per cent fit to challenge Wladimir Klitschko in May or April next year.
"The treatment is working well,'' Dr Geffen said. "It allows a full range of motion that Alex would get running but it takes all the stress off his calf and allows it to repair.''
