Its difficult to tell after just 4 rounds, Mayweather looked a little slower than normal but maybe he would have go going in the middle rounds, who knows.

Lets honestly evaluate floyd's performance vs ortiz.

I thought it was a fantastic performance. His dominated his opponents for so long now that people expect him not be hit haha that alone shows you how good he is.
If the fight were to go longer it would have been Floyd winning all of the rest of the rounds apart from two at most.

I thought he was putting on a very good performance.
He was aggressive, very sharp with all his punches and he controlled the tempo throughout. If he had continued that way without the sucker punch, i think he would of went on to stop Ortiz in much better fashion than he did.
It's unfortunate he resorted to a sucker punch to end the fight because he ended up taking credit away from his own victory.

Threads like this just prove time and time again that Mayweather is simply held to a much higher standard than any other athlete in the sport. There is not another fighter in boxing that gets critiqued like this or nit picked.
At very worst he was winning 3-1 (I had him winning all 4), he KO's his opponent in the 4th, and looked damn good. He out-landed Ortiz 75-26 and in my eyes looked fast and very strong. There simply isn't one other fighter out there that would receive any sort of critiquing after a performance like that.

mayweather looked sharp and very elusive. . . still basically on point. . . but i have rewatched the fight twice, and i do think ortiz did catch floyd more than i initially thought he did. . floyd still partially deflected most of the shots, but ortiz got through with some. . . before i was sure floyd would have went to to dominate each round, now im not so sure. . . still think he would have won if i had to make a pick, but it wasn't AS one sided as i thought it was. . . ortiz certainly was still "in" the fight.

He seemed to be warming up from the third round where he noticeably looked more comfortable. He had been out of the ring 16 months and there wasn't a huge amount of noticeable ring rust.
His hand speed and reflexes were very good I thought, people think that Floyd should get hit literally 0 times...he got hit about 6 times a round, which is incredible. He opened his hands up a lot more than usual, which left him more open but he was still able to stop himself being hit much and made for a bit more excitement for the casual.
I thought he looked great and would have been good to see him go at least 8 rounds, his timing was impressive he makes countering and throwing at the same time as his opponent look so easy.
I think Floyds skills are detracting from him...in some peoples' minds if a guy lands a flurry on Mayweather then they could possible have won the round despite him dominating the majority of the round, which is ridiculous

Mayweather is 34, he's coming off a 16 month lay-off and fighting a Champion ten years younger than him. Do you seriously think he is not gonna take a punch or two even though he ended the fight in the fourth? I think some people buy into Mayweather's hype just a little too much and think he is some God-like phenomenom.Last edited by visionary247; 09-28-2011, 08:23 AM.
