i still say merchant and floyd have A LOT in common - they both have ginormous ego's. . . they both sometimes speak their mind, to the dismay and disgust of the public. . . neither are really bad guys, but their comments make them easy to be perceived as so. . both are great at what they do - moreso floyd, but you can't deny larry has had a great career as a sports writer and boxing commentator.

Actually, I didn't understand his 180 turn after the fight was over. He gave Floyd a lot of praise for that fight. Something I haven't heard from Larry since Mayweahter fought Judah. Then, he suddenly decides to push Floyd into a corner.
I've also read that some individuals here believe that Floyd took the easy way out. I don't believe that, not at all. The look in Floyd's eyes and facial expression when he landed those two shots had "mean intention" written all over them. He was upset and even more upset and frustrated at how the fight ended. The unfairness of Merchant's interview was the tipping point. I've never seen Floyd this angry. With Max, he seemed annoyed. This time he was boiling over.
Anyway.
Max is fresh but Lampley, Merchant and even Steward are either putting people completely off by talking about something entirely else when a fight is going on or just being plain bias.
When Floyd was landing clean shots on Ortiz' forehead, and the crowd were screaming and standing up, Lampley went on about Ortiz' upbringing (again). I thought already covered that - more than enough on 24/7. Steward's mind seemed to be somewhere else too. He sounded uninspiring.
When Ortiz decided to jump at Floyd with his head first they didn't speak about it. Then they showed the replay and still no comments were made on that assault. There were numerous incidents where Ortiz' head was involved. They took it way to lightly but they didn't hesitate to jump on Floyd for following the rules. Double standards I tell ya.
I suggest that anyone who is still interested in the fight should watch it via Prime Time (UK). I'm sick and tired of HBO's team. SKY, Show, Prime Time and even ESPN have better commentators than HBO.

Poor little dumbA$$'s harping on one of the best commentators in the history of boxing.
He has been colorful all his days and to have a spoiled brat get in his face is a disgrace
BUT
coming from who did it, hahahahaha it is to be expected.
Jr. will NEVER get respect until he quits demanding and begins to earn it respectfully.
The article was right on.
Lampley and Merchant have made the best team since Lampley came aboard HBO. EVER !!!!!!!!
In one way I feel sorry for Jr. He said he wanted to thank GOD for his victory and in the same breath curse his elder MERCHANT,,,, what a contrast.
Athletes use the Lords name too loosely,
Too bad ORTIZ fouled,,,I was enjoying watching him get Jr in the corners and busting him up.
Too bad we get bad refs that don't know where the fighters are in the ring and turns his back NEVER making a gesture to bring the fighters he don't know of there whereabouts to come together and resume the fight,,,,such as it is,,,it is sickening compared to the late 50's thru the 80's.
Refs have been sorry in the past, the one in the Clay Liston 1 acted like he was in la la land so such as it is, I just shake my head and go on.
I hope HBO don't bend to JR when the Pac fight takes place. Pac will KO Jr and I want to see the Merchant interview with JR after his ass is whupped. DON'T YOU ???????

Merchant has been hating Floyd since the 90's , he always has some slick **** to say about Floyd no matter what. he secretly prays to see Floyd lose. he should've got on Ortiz for that dirty headbutt , not floyd for retaliating.
like malignaggi said " ortiz made it a street fight , and he shouldve kept it like that "
