This IS a legacy fight for Roy Jones Jr.

You guys including that writer cannot say that this fight is NOT for his legacy, but then turn around and say his legacy is tarnished a bit if he loses badly.

It is for his legacy whether you like it or not.

If he wins, it adds to his legacy as he prevails vs his toughest test in his career in a trilogy. If he loses, it tarnishes it a bit because he loses the trilogy to his toughest test in his career. Especially if he loses badly.

Even if he loses badly, he will still go into the HOF and he has had a great career. But either way, this fight will add or detract from his legacy. Even if it is the slightest.

almost every fight is I gues...lol...

if Cotto keeps winning...he builds a legacy...if he loses his next fight...he stops building a legacy...UNTIL he wins his next fight or avenges it...then his legacy goes back in the direction of building...

Kostya's took a hit vs Hatton...sure he is going into the HOF and a great fighter...but it takes a hit because now when H2Hing him vs past aggressive fighters, people only think back to how he quit vs Hatton...

Morales' took a hit vs Raheem...because now when matching him up vs past great "boxers", not many would ever give him a chance anymore...

I am not saying EVERY fight is the biggest legacy fight of a career...just on different levels at different times...Jones built more to his legacy by beating Ruiz...moved back down, built a bit more by gutting out the final two rounds vs Tarver...Tarver KOed him in 2 and his legacy took a buzz...but most felt it was just a lucky punch...then he gets thrashed by Johnson and it takes an even bigger hit...now he has a chance to prove he is better than Tarver...shut him up...and prove that old saying that every great fighter has a great fight left in them...

None can take away from what Roy has done period. What this fight will prove is if Roy is done or not and that's all it will prove. He and Tarver are 1-1 all it will change is their record between them.

This fight settles the score. Who is better? Antonio Tarver or Roy Jones Jr? I say Tarver. We'll find out on Saturday.

                hmm

This is not for Roy's legacy at all. He is the underdog vs a guy he would have soundly beaten 3 years ago. He's old, not capable of being what he used to be, and if he wins GREAT, but that won't put him much higher with all the people who never had him high to begin with. If he loses, so what? He's 36, has been dropped twice, and has never looked the same since coming down from 200.

It has a lot of emotion to it for me personally cuz I'm a big Roy fan, but in no way does this one fight make or break Roy's legacy.
Win or lose he is still a top 50 p4p guy.

No offense Super_Lightweight but your the only one who thinks this loss wont tarnish his legacy. Suprising, considering your a Roy Jones fan........

Having said that, whether you think so or not, this WILL tarnish his legacy. When Jones beat Ruiz at HW, you were probably saying how unbeatable Jones is, and since he lost 2 out of 3 fights since then, he's finally beatable because he's "old" right?

Don't get me wrong, Jones is still a first ballot HOFer, and one of the greatest fighters ever, but if he loses it will be similiar to Hopkins losing to Taylor, even though Hopkins was 40 at the time.

Another ****** post, what else is new.

Anybody realize that Roy is old. How can an old Roy losing tarnish his legacy?
