    You're out to lunch.

Peter wouldn't come close to landing a big shot on James Toney.

Dude your really smokin crack if you think Ruiz would knock out Sam Peter.... Really what are you basing this on tonights fight with Wlad?? Wlad has speed and boxing ability something Ruiz lacks. If he is afraid of what Toney did to him he really should be aware of what Sam Peter would do to him. He will try and hold only to get clobbered in the end.

He jabbed well, he threw sharp hooks and crisp straight right hands, and he moved to the side, NOT directly back like a good fighter. He also knew when and how to inititate a clinch (to throw Sam's rhythm and off and stop his momentum) and when to break it off before the ref became irritated. To be honest, if not for the illegal rabbit punching by Sam's part, the fight would look very one sided on the scorecards.

Also, he fought a very physical fight on the inside with a powerful young man as well as using constant movement and he was able to do this for a full 12 rounds. At his size, that is very respectable. I think we can safely say the stamina kinks have been worked out.

As for Peter, he displayed quite a chin in this fight. Wladimir has the best right hand since a young Lennox Lewis, and he caught Sam flush with it several times, only hurting him somewhat late in the fight when he was exhausted. His stamina needs work. Workrate needs to improve. Perhaps paramount to all these other things is straight punching. Where was it tonight? Not in Samuel Peter's aresenal, and that needs to change.

But he has power, he has strength, and he has a chin. I would still pick him over most of the guys out there, and he's only going to improve at 25 years of age.

Great fight though. I was watching it in a room with some girls who didn't know anything about boxing and they were all cheering Peter on with me. He's very likeable on top of everything else. My sig is staying. Samuel Peter is the goods; he just needs to mature. Give him three years and he'll be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

good post, good analysis, and good admiting that you were incorrect about the outcome props

You crazy foo. Ruiz got footwork like Ali in his prime, and the handspeed of sugar ray leonard. Give Ruiz props for being the #1 latino boxer of our time!

I honestly thought you were being serious until then. Good one mate. Ruiz is however the no.1 Latino heavyweight right now. Doesn't say much.

I agree totally, Ruiz is slightly better than Ali though. He has better conditioning and punch dexterority!

...Good thread!!! IMO it was the best scenario for the heavies. Two guys who are exciting and an asset to the division are still around. If the two of them can get rid of the Byrd's, Ruiz's, and other pretenders of the division than I would feel alot better about the big boys. I wanna see Peter whack out a few guys in the very near future. The fact that Wlad didn't completely trash him at the end will bode well for Peter's future and confidence.

I think Peter could beat just about any other heavyweight out there. Both fighters stock went up after this fight.
