I think KOing Ortiz will elevate his status somewhat.

It's a stepping stone to a bigger name, bigger fight.

Personally I'd like to see Berto against Paul Williams. That would be a real test and a real scalp to take.

      none of the above.

      Berto KOing Ortiz means nothing.

      1) Ortiz is a jr WW
      2) Ortiz is a quitter
      3) Ortiz already got stopped by Maidana

It should get him a little more respect but I don't know if he is out of the hypejob category. An easy blowout win would make him respectable.

every time Berto has been interested in a Top Rank Bob starts to talk about how he has no exposure and doesnt deserve the fight. Hbo wanted Cotto vs Berto or Martinez and Bob picked Mayorga and went to showtime. Has nothing to do with Cotto cause he will fight anyone. But uncle bob is an obstacle.

Why does Berto fight SMALLER boxers?

He has never even once fought a super welterweight.

I have no respect for him as long as he keeps padding his record with these smaller opponents.

Meh, it depends how he beats him. If he dominates him, it'll make a statement. If he beats him in a competitive fight, its not overly impressive. Ortiz is 0-1-1 in big fights at 140. It's a decent win, not a great one.

believe it or not Ortiz is not actually "smaller" than Berto. He is a little taller and comes to ring just as heavy. My only issue is that Ortiz should not fight berto at his first fight at 147. If Ortiz wins a fight at 147 prior to this fight the whole perception of the fight is changed.

I'd say that he becomes a little more respectable. If I'm not mistaken, this is Ortiz's first fight at the full welter limit. I count that as a small strike against Berto.

I still see Ortiz as a good opponent who was bound to move up.

He's also a hard hitting southpaw.

The sad part is it will probably be his biggest win to date. So I'd give him a little credit for it. He'd be respectable because welterweights are suppose to KO fighters smaller fighters so at least he'll be doing what was expected instead of coasting on a decision.

I however think this will be a damn good fight. I think it does end in KO. I think they will bring the best out of each other. Whoever wins I think will do it impressively. If Ortiz takes a page out of Miguel Cotto's playbook as a boxer/puncher then I think he can take Berto out. He just needs to utilize the jab and go to the body. Cotto eats speed boxers alive.

Berto will have to mean mug him and make it ugly but hit him hard at the same time to start breaking him. Btw, I got Ortiz in this fight by KO.
