De la Hoya-Mayorga should've never fought for the vacant WBC crown as neither were the top contenders at 154 at the time. When was the last time De La Hoya had fought anyway? He was coming off robbing Sturm and getting stopped by Hopkins. And Mayorga was coming off a beating at the hands of Felix Trinidad, who was coming off retirement. It may not have been a catchweight but it was a paper title.

That's actually a good point. No one has.

However the fighters that have gone through 5 divisions such as Leonard and Hearns are significantly greater than Floyd.

Hell, the fighters that have gone through 4 divisons are significantly greater ; Duran, Whitaker and Jones Jr. Well, I personally think Jones jR IS Arguable.

Goes to show how little being undefeated means in terms of greatness.

Not a vacant belt, still a paper title.

154 was pretty much entirely constructed of paper at that point (and it still hasn't even really turned around 5 years later)

Yup, you sure are right. It was the dead division at that point--everyone was below or up. I never thought of Mayweather-Oscar as the fight for the true title but the winner was probably the best fighter in the division. Who else was around at that time, Cory Spinks? Kassim Ouma? Karmazin? I don't even remember.

That doesn't mean the title he won wasn't paper.

Cory Spinks was considered the #1 at 154 at the time.

                    Oscar was considered #3.

I think that's what IMDAZED is saying.

Yep - spot on. Not that I was singing the praises of Cory Spinks at the time or anything lol. But he was the guy in the division.
