    Is Victor Ortiz vastly underrated now?

    I read alot of ppl not crediting Berto for fighting him and though I am no Berto fan I must say I am impressed that he is finally taking on a serious challenge like Ortiz.

    So before anyone starts I know Ortiz quit against Maidana(almost 2 years ago). He was only 22 I think, had never been in that tough, and when Maidana didn't go away but kept pressing on after tasting Ortiz's power and the canvas Ortiz panicked but that was then time to move on.

    Really that was his only legit loss and until the stoppage he wasn't doing so bad, Ortiz has power, speed, & good enough boxing skills to beat Berto.

    It wouldn't be surprised at all if he beat Maidana in a rematch boxing carefully......also he was robbed against Peterson even if it wasn't a great showing and he needlessly went defensive.

    The maidana fight completely ruined him mentally IMO. He hasn't recovered from that fight, you can see it the way he fights now. He is very tentative and seems to shy away from contact.

    Also I believe he needs to find a new trainer. Someone who can revitalize his confidence and give him a new look. Something is just not right in him ATM.

        You admit that Victor Ortiz did not have a great showing against Peterson yet claim that he was robbed? Did you meant to say that Peterson was robbed?

          ortiz lost a lot of stock...

          all the talent, but he's a mental midget... too bad the mental part is a huge part of it.

            No need for him to try and go the extra mile get hit if he doesn't have to, it shows he learn from the Maidana fight where he could and should have shied away from contact at times and won.

            He since then has not just won but really dominated every fight.

              Even in not having a great showing it was a pretty clear win for Peterson, I honestly though this whole Peterson won bit was a wind up from you in that other thread.

                Except for the Peterson fight. Peterson was the only legitimate competition he fought. He got a gift draw.

                  I think he has become underrated. I expect the Berto fight to be extremely competitive and I think Ortiz is going to rebuild his name at 147...maybe even one day grab a belt at that weight class.

                  Hoever, I don't think he can beat Berto. This isn't really a bad thing for Ortiz though. I think Berto is the 3rd best Welterweight in the world and Ortiz won't be ready for Berto...yet.
