Smarter Is Harder
Bobby Boy Arum has connected the dots in the prizefight coloring book for so long that it very hard to wager against him.
His thoughts are Bradley/Alexander are accurate and underscore a true knowledge of the business craft of the sport.
But that's the differnce between getting your degree at Harvard versus The Olympics. De La Hoya is simply too slow for the 8 decade life that is his new opponent.
Mosely saw the contract writing on the wall and made his exit before you could say 'a man is his word.'
The coup that must be respected, although it is an ultimate insult to fans of the game, is Arum's deal with CBS that will turn an exhibition into the biggest PPV of all time.
I enjoy watching the very skilled and schooled Mr. Pacquiao but this corporate move indicates that cash is now his most important challange, not throwing gloved hands with the best in the world.
The buildup already has intelligent souls articulating false hope for a competitive night on May 7.
At 39 Saul Mamby was just getting warmed up. At 38 Shane had a very tough night with the powerless Sergio Mora.
Watch Manny's last four and do the math. Ya can't fight the numbers whether they are in calender or checkbook time. They do not lie.
Showtime has access to one of only 4 major league networks and that is the ballgame right there.
If Boxing were not so unpredictable, Manny could exceed Superbowl numbers on free T.V given the sponsership bucks out there.
But if a fight ends in the second stanza on a headbutt where do the rest of the Snickers commercials go?
110 million viewers could equal 300 million smackers.
If this were still the age of blinky Palermo, a guy could be asked to carry an opponent the distance.
Then again, given what Wall Street has gotten away with over the last 20 years, anything is reasonable where money is concerned.
Don King and Bob Arum have a limited time left on this planet.
But you can bet the farm that when Bobby Boy's 10 count has sounded, he will have already made planes to ensure a viable replacement that will keep Oscar and most other American based promoters at the back of the pack.
Top Rank is on top and without Boxing regulations his kingdom shall remain so for many rounds to come.

the fight will lose some luster. one of them, sooner or later will get picked off.i hope not but they juanma keeps going down and gamboa keeping his guard low when he's tired or things not going his way sooner or later will lose then its all out the windows. arum is too patient and something will go wrong.

Plus, the difference here with alexander-bradley is that gamboa-lopez actually has been building for a long ass time now. Bradley alexander really didn't build at all so it's different.
I don't know how much bigger he expects both these guys to get but I don't think either will reach super status until they fight eachother, imo.
fighting each other is what is going to make one a superstar!
and if its a war it might make them both super stars

see...replies to this thread is what arum is talking about. replies by hardcore fans. not 90% of the ppv buyers. you gotta admit, the fighters themselves might have agreed w/ arum's plans as they know it will give them the most money also in the long run. and that's why these prizefighters fight right? so who knows best really for the fighter but themselves?

He has no fan following in the United States. He needs a fight against a name guy like Lopez had with Marquez.
