Comments Thread For: Juan Manuel Marquez 2011 Options: A Breakdown

I can’t think of too many fighters with as fine of a blend as raw talent, technical efficiency, and fighting spirit as lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Now into his eighteenth year as a professional, the 37-year old is still going strong, just a month removed from his thrilling battle with Michael Katsidis at the MGM Grand.

So Marquez still doesn't want Khan (or Schaefer doesn't want to make that fight)???

Well, it seemed like the obvious one for Marquez, but if he wants to stick with the lightweights, he must take what is there. At the lightweight price.

I don't think Arum will have a problem with putting Marquez in with somebody at 135 if the price is reasonable. But that's the problem with Marquez, of course. He's at the end of the road and he wants the paydays.

So he'll probably have to move up in weight anyhow.

while waiting for Pac to fight him again..

JMM-Linares or JMM-Guerrero sounds interesting enough.

just a few options.....and few opponents at 135.... soto...guerrero...rios......nah, not worth the challenge!!!

better at 140lbs....Khan, Morales, Bradley, Ortiz, Alexander, Maidana, etc.

maybe up at 147lbs against berto

or Marquez career-ending fight at 147 and getting destroyed by Pacquiao...

                1) JMM vs Maidana
                2) JMM vs Winner Bradley-Alexander
                3) JMM vs Khan
                4) JMM vs Berto
                5) JMM vs Pacquiao

Last option would retire him, but either of the previous options (not soo much Maidana) will put him at risk of not seeing the last one.

Then that means there are no good options left...

I think his schedule will run something like:

                    Morales

                    Khan

                    Bradley/Alexander winner
