the idiot held vics hands at the end and mares caught him a few times

You have to realize that such was his plan Hyperion... he was not going to box when he had so much blood dripping down his face, he was going to bully the "bully" and it worked for him.

Looks like he should have won it from what many are saying but in these cases it always seems to go to the young guy with big money behind him.

Ortiz just got rocked bad by the way and looks like he is flagging. Wasting too much movement.

The right guy won Benny. I was rooting hard for Vic but Abner landed more punches and was backing up Vic almost all the time. Abner was getting hit by Vic's vaunted left but he offset it by having more body punches in and it paid off, the ratio was one Vic's big leftstraight against Mares' 4-5 body shots and it paid off. Vic was running on fumes in the last 3-4 rounds. Mares was a sitting duck for Darchinyan's right hook right off the bat, and Vic couldn't seem to miss, but Vic doesn't seem to use that weapon in his arsenal that often...

from what i saw tonite against mares and king kong, darchinyan looked tired from the middle rounds on...so vic lost because he had no gas left...against mares tonite reminded me of the fight he had against king kong...vic jus ran out of gas in both fights

i dont see how vic can beat donaire if they have a 2.nd fight

              kinda like kessler vs froch
Way to come on here to claim your jargon that he has heart but he's sloppy....RIGHT after a fight where he at least somewhat succeeds in bullying the bully after getting put into a bit of an urgency mode because of a bad early cut and a KD.

              Spot on buddy.

I didn't realize Agbeko was off for over a year, that doesn't sound good for him.

Especially a guy like him who never seems that sharp anyway.

On another note, great win for Mares. Was rooting for him all the way - a nice change of pace from his arrogant opponent.

nah, not really, he's been a physically weak arm puncher all through his career....ive seen most of his fights.....

and i like the guy a lot....i think he beat perez and darchinyan.....but people talked about him as if he was as skilled as a marquez early in his career and he clearly never will be near that level, his defensive awareness is also kinda poor........i mean, prime bantamweight rafa would have killed him in 4 rounds tops......

Ortiz wins it, but man, he has to stop from squaring himself up so much. He throws that left and drops his right hand while squaring up. Someone with a good counter left could catch up wide open and not seeing the punch and it would be lights out big time.

Anyway, he showed that supposed missing heart of his. Decent scrap, though a bit too scrappy.

Cheers Gopi. I respect your judgement. Mares is a great young fighter and this might be his greatest win for the rest of his career. Looks as though Vic might be finally slowing down enough that his stamina can't hold up for the full twelve any more at 35. Still sounded good though. I hope he can at least win a BW title before he ends his career. I really like the little guy. Willing to fight anyone, and though his trash talk is terrible, he always backs it up and has given us all many surprises over his great career now.

If you look back over what he has done, it's really quite an incredible achievement and one of the very best careers overall in boxing today. Fought the very best in each weight class from the old guns to the new up and coming young guns win or lose. Long time champion, first Undisputed 115 champ in history with a great resume in what has arguably been boxings best divisions for sometime now. As CRold said, we're probably going to look back on Vic as one of the most underrated fighters of this era in years to come.

                      *sigh*
