it's always the lack of stamina and the porous defense with cotto.
but i agree he lack of power to keep martinez honest and the cracked chin isn't gonna help him.
I disagree with this. Cotto has some of the best power around. We forget because he lost to two guys with ridiculous chins. While his chin can be cracked, it's not as if he's there to be taken. He can take huge shots and has been knocked down before and come back to win.
So it looks like a lot of people on here see Martinez as a middleweight version of pac, unstoppable. We all need a dose of realilty, I think he is probably tied with Sturm as the top dog , I'm not convinced he could beat Sturm and unfortunately the middleweight division is really in a developmental stage lacking the lucrative challenges Sergio is looking towards. This new rush to crown him as the best is based mainly on the following:
a close loss to Paul Williams in a great fight, but he was beaten, I've seen the fight many many times and still score it for Williams by a round.
Martinez beating a version of Kelly Pavlik who we now know was deep into a personal crisis and until he was cut bad in the what 8th round, looked to be coming on and taking back over.
The impressive looking KO over Williams. But lets put this into perspective, Williams did not look good against Cintron and I think he caught a break that the fight was prematurely ended. What was worse I think is that Williams bought into his own hype, he thought he was unstoppable and looked to me to have bulked up quite a bit upstairs against Sergio. His biggest problem agaisnt Sergio was that he decided to fight somewhat like Ricky Hatton fought against Pac, hands down, bulling in and not moving his head, eating shots like candy. Sergio intelligently stepped to the side a bit , got that angle and threw a bomb to his chin.
Basically what Im saying is Sergio Martinez is obviously a great fighter, but to think he would steam roll Cotto or in mind even give Pac problems is way out in left field. I think Pac should accept Sergio's offer because Sergio would likely make the same mistake everyone of Pacs opponents since David Diaz have made thinking they were too big for Pac to hurt them. I think Cotto should man up once again and seize the opportunity to make history and reclaim top dog honors. If Cotto loses so what no shame in losing to p4p top 3 or 4 fighter.
No. But it's a known fact that Cotto has problems with in and out fighters, and I would imagine to fight the biggest in/out fighter he's ever faced would be a stylistic nightmare/suicide for Miguel.
Cotto's only problem with in and out fighters was Manny and he's an ATG by nearly everyones standards. Losing to him, despite his style is not something to dismiss as him lacking the ability to deal with that type of fighter. Besides, Cotto STEAMROLLED Quintana, Paulie and Judah who all have an in/out style, he struggled with Manny and he didn't have a trainer for that fight. Too many people write off not only Cotto but having an actual trainer, just look at the difference in training footage between Steward and Cotto's b*tch.
At 155 I'll favor Cotto as he is simply a FAR better technical boxer, he had a long amateur career Martinez didn't that accounts for a lot. But I think the biggest reason I favor Cotto is that he's already demolished a version of Sergio in Quintana. Aside from the weight they are almost the same fighter, they are both 5'10" and southpaw but they both have the same bad habit of leaning to their right DIRECTLY in line with Cotto hook or uppercut. Not to mention Sergio is always dropping his hands which Cotto will eat up with his jab.
People just see what Sergio does right, its what he does wrong and the pro's/con's in this fight favor Cotto. The biggest one being that Cotto is susceptible to pressure fighters which Sergio is not and biggest issue is sitting on the ropes, I find a hard time seeing Sergio pressure Cotto. Watch Cotto/Foreman again as well and I just see Cotto utilizing that same gameplan stalking Sergio and cutting off the ring patiently waiting for Sergio to come in to throw and he counter him with check hooks and three punch combos. All that being said 155 I favor Cotto at 160 I do not, at that point Sergio has more power than I think Cotto could handle, as I don't think it will be an easy fight but I see how Cotto could win.
Cotto would get destroyed by Martinez. Cotto is too small for Martinez and Martinez is faster than Cotto, Cotto couldnt take Pacquiao's punches, look what Sergio Martinez did to Williams. If they do fight Cotto would be permanently damaged after the fight!!
Cotto's the ****!!!!!!!! Easily my favorite boxer, but against the top guys at 154, he's going to have some trouble I think. Martinez is not only bigger, but he's also fast and strong topped off with some real solid boxing skills, which i think is going to present an issue for Cotto. But then again, if Cotto can land his big left hook, he can beat anyone.
