Cotto has never struggled against movement or southpaws if you exclude Manny. He's actually destroyed southpaws in the past- Judah, Quintana, and others. Steward seems to have fine tuned Miguel's footwork and posture, he looked great against the much bigger, mobile, and slick Foreman. He wouldn't have trouble keeping up with and closing the gap against Sergio. And we don't know how he would react to Cotto's body attack.

Plus Martinez keeps his hands at his side and can be easy to hit, and his stamina is questionable. If he goes down to 154 or 55, the poor stamina would be even more pronounced.

I think Cotto would have a real chance of winning the fight if it's made.

Cotto has a good jab and can throw combinations. I would bet on Cotto in this fight.

No where in my post did I say Cotto would win. But posters thinking as if this is in the bag because Martinez is "big" is kidding themselves.

            Cotto aint a feather weight.
No. But it's a known fact that Cotto has problems with in and out fighters, and I would imagine to fight the biggest in/out fighter he's ever faced would be a stylistic nightmare/suicide for Miguel.

I want to see this fight to prove he has improved with Steward as his trainer. He looked good and mobile (@154) against what's his face.

He has a chance...as in anything is possible. Sadly, I do believe he would lose decidedly. Arum is an idiot. I am not asking for Cotto to be protected, but I DO want him protected from idiocy.

yeah but all of those fighters where smaller than cotto and he was able to bully them until they had no more. With martinez he will be much smaller and will be back pedaling bc i doubt that he would stay and trade with martinez. If he does he will be koed. And if the fight is made at 154 martinez would have to train harder to make the weight and will have a better condition not the other way around.
