Manny Pacquiao: Skills or smart MATCH MAKING?

Both. Cannot deny Pac got skills. Picture JuanMa Lopez adding some pounds and fighting the likes of PRESENT Margarito and Cotto or even Clottey. If you think he could win those fights then you are just kidding yourself.

At this stage of Pac's career, great match making keeps him marketable and on top.

I think Pac's got the greatest footwork in any boxer today.

the catch weight is a lame excuse used by manny haters. just in case ya forgot his opponents is still BIGGER than him even with the catch weight. now u tell me whats harder, fighting someone smaller than u and coming down in weight to fight him or fighting someone that is just bigger than u all around. i vote the 2nd one.

DLH/Pac was 4 to 1 odds in favor of Dela Hoya..

How can it be good matchmaking when the odds on 3 of his last 5 fights were either split, or him being an underdog..

Clottey is not a legit contender anymore, and Margarito is shot. If he is not shot, then I don't know what is.

Aside from that, those are both great match-ups for Manny's favor. They're flat footed, slow handed, come forward guys who simply do not possess the speed to catch Manny.

Manny's career since 2005 has been mostly superb matchmaking.

When they took on the fight with Morales that they lost, that was good matchmaking. Morales was slipping and thought to have nothing left and Roach was quoted as saying "He is shot, we're going to walk right through this guy."

That's just a testament as to how Manny is not quite as good as most people people. It's hard to say now, as the wool over everyone's eyes is so thick, but we have not seen him fight a game opponent in years, so we can only assume its the excellent matchmaking of Bob Arum.

Pac fought Barrera, Marquez, and Morales in a period of 14 months when all 3 of them were the top fighters at 126-130..Matchmaking cannot be the reason he took all those fights because he was an unknown who was not affiliated with top promoters (Top Rank and Goldenboy). In fact it was the other way around. Barrera was with GB, while Morales and Marquez were with Top Rank..

That was my inital post, it is true.

Cotto was still a very good capable fighter, Clottey was a prime capable fighter... Margarito was past prime IMO, but held a huge size advantage, and probably would of given anyone in the division a run for their money, it's just that Pac dismantled him. Doesn't make him a bum. Hatton also wasn't a bum, although I think he was sliding after the Floyd loss, he still wasn't a bum.

Hindsight is 20/20.

You say he hasn't fought a capable opponent in years.

I say that's ridiculous.

Everyone of those fights were close on the boards pre-fight... whether you had them losing or not.

Good point. Pretty simple common sense. How can it
be match making when he was just a nobody back then?
He was the one being match up with. He was not in control.
