Despite all the arguments above, perception is a strange thing. Mayweather generally across the world is perceived as a fantastic boxer that has engineered his career in a clever way. He is 'perceived' as taking the right fights at the right time for him within the right deal and surrounding caveats (location etc). The general perception of him as a person is an arrogant, flashy, trash talking 'wife beating' bragard. All of the above may not be true but that is the general perception of the man.

Pac is perceived as the little man of the people who took huge risks and overcame many physical differences to win several world titles in weight divisions far far higher than should have been possible. He is perceived to have done this whilst striving to better the lives of his fellow countrymen through charitable and political work.
The general perception of him is a tough, polite, humble little man who has exploited his position and fame for not only his good for the good of his country.

Therefore legacy wise Pacquiao may be remembered and perceived in a far better light than Mayweather. However the reality may be be different.
wow that took actually thought thats not allowed on pac man mayweather threads

      - "I don't need to fight the best ....."
      - "So what I said that I would. Now I'm saying I wouldn't"
      - "I'm not going to fight him .... I'm going on another long vacation"

and the above are just some of the things that Floyd said.

Manny Pacquiao will continue to be the illusion some "fans" hide behind because they can't accept anything that isn't "humble" or "emasculated." They need a hero that suites their sensibilities and I'm completely okay with that, I just wish they were a little more honest about it.
pac's being humble has got little to do with his accomplishments that one could hardly call an illusion....fighting the likes of erik, marco, oscar, shane, cotto and jmm, win or lose are not illusions like the titles pac won on different divisions....

also, saying floyd is still flourishing now is to look at the fighters greatness within a very selective time frame...

the poll results and posts here tend to show most people see pac's greatness over pbf borne out by pac's willingness to face great odds....not more so on pac's skill as a boxer but his heart as a fighter...

These statements are why Floyd is better and greater those fights fights were considered risks for Manny but showcase or cherrpicks for Floyd. By saying that you have greater expectations for Floyd than you do Manny.

Sorry I was never going to post in this thread but your post is so ****** I had to say something. First of all, a fighters personality has nothing to do with their in ring accomplishments but that does not mean it does not have an effect on the perception of that fighters accomplishments in the media and general population, someone likable is always going to be looked upon favorably. Secondly you named six fighters, 4 of which Floyd fought too, two of them he beat at better times and one of them he beat handily while Manny lost to him by brutal KO, just saying "win or lose" does not negate the fact he lost. Fighting a great fighter and losing shows your willingness to fight greats but it is still a loss and shows you are not levels above the competition. Thirdly Floyd is still going strong or flourishing... however you want to put it... and Pac is not doing so well lately, that is not looking at a select part of their careers, it is just stating what is happening now and what happens at any point in their careers still counts when they have both retired. And lastly your last paragraph is negated by two things, 1. This thread was made a long time ago and a lot has happened since then. 2. In the last few weeks, the votes for Floyd have gone up over 6% and Manny's have gone down over 6%. That shows more people are now voting Floyd than Manny.
So if you think Manny is greater then cool or if you think Floyd is greater then cool, I really don't care either way but just stop posting ****** crap that has no value.
