I respect Tony and Briggs, but both were completely mismatched.

lightin Great and FOTD Pac Man -vs- slow and average JrMW pounder Tony

Tony got lucky he beat Cotto and was caught using plaster in his next bout cuz he wouldnt have faced Pac.

it was a poor business fight.

I think Ortiz has the tools to beat Rios but the question is how will he react to the pressure. I still think pretty highly of Ortiz but I saw something in the Nate Campbell fight that bothered me. He dominated the fight but there was a point that Campbell was able to apply a bit of pressure and it seemed to really bother Ortiz though he was still winning the rounds. Talented fighter that doesn't like pressure. Reminds me of Zab Judah a bit.
rios is gonna fight the winner of soto/urbana. should be a great fight. I think soto and urbana might be undersized for rios who looks huge.

ortiz might be too fast for rios. rios is relentless though and ortiz quit once, he might quit again. GBP will never make this fight.

People are surprised Mike Jones didn't look spectacular but to me he didn't look too spectacular on showbox a while back against lesser competition. He scored a KO on what appeared to be a low blow but struggled with his offense a little. On Sat he seemed to punch himself out early but part of me wonders if making weight helped that happen. He is tall and looked huge for that weight class. He was very muscular and didn't look like a fighter that weighed 145 the day before. He is a great prospect and has potential but some people may be expecting too much too soon. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up fighting at 154 soon as well.
jones is a little green and showed it by blowing his load early. he idolizes hopkins, but he gotta fight like hopkins a little more. he should've tied up soto-karass with an armbar like hopkins and hit him with the other hand. jones needs to fight smarter.

jones has a huge upper body, but his legs are like toothpicks. he is top heavy and wears big shorts so him making 145 lbs is believable.

Everytime I see Manny Pacquaio he adds a little something to make him more dangerous. I can see that they worked on his body punching and he looked good going to the body. Early in the fight Margarito looked like he knew what Pac had and was comfortable with it. Thats when he got suckered in and shocked like the others have. Great performance though the one thing I feared for Manny did happen when he got caught with that body shot. Manny is tough though and people have to stop coming into fights thinking they can stop him by catching hard once or twice. The final piece for Manny to develop and in my opinion and the most important if he ends up fighting you know who is his defense. He doesn't anticipate too much and just deals with his opponents offense as it comes. He also uses his offense to intimidate his opponent into not throwing. For the mega fight I think he has to change that. Its very possible that he may be able to improve in that area they way he has developed in other areas. The right hand is now dangerous and strong, the body work is there, now its time to work on avoiding being timed and hit by shots he is fast/skilled enough to avoid. Styles make fights. Hopefully we get the fight that everyone wants.
pac admitted that he sacrificed defense to **** it out with marg. pac could've fought safe and won easily without getting touched, but he wanted to go toe to toe to give the fans a great fight. pac has incredible defense... especially his ring generalship and foot work, it's just that he is a warrior and isn't scared of anyone except God. I too believe this to be his achilles heel, but the only fighter would could take advantage of this is someone with one punch KO power who isn't afraid to **** with pac.

I thought Tony was overhyped back in the day but I understood that his style would be difficult for some very good fighters. Yeah he didn't deserve the Pac fight. A Clottey rematch is really what he should have got.

LMFO after Clottey's performances against Pac and Tony's performances against Mosley..........

Clottey vs Margarito 2.................yeah why not?

but he got this fight and got mexicutioned.
in the other hand ...no shame in losing to the greatest fighter of our era.

Maybe he sacrifices defense at times but I still feel there are holes there that someone can take advantage of if they are fast enough to not be frozen by his speed. Someone made the point earlier in the thread that he is not as easy to time as he once was to witch I agree. I don't think you need one shot KO power per say I think you need to be fast enough and hit hard enough to make him think a little before throwing combos. If he doesn't respect your speed he knows he can hit you when he wants and move out if he wants to. Or he can stand in there and make sacrifices as you said because he is confident you cant keep up if he turns it up. That may change a bit if a fighter has more speed and he has to respect it more. Not to say Manny still wouldnt employ the same type of mindset but he would be in a situation where he could get blindsided in a similar fashion to witch he blindsides his victims. The counter to that is Manny might get to the foe first as well witch would be no surprise either. I think he will make the adjustment though and fight more controlled based on the opponent. Its intriguing just thinking/talking about it.

Dude coming off a suspension should have a tough fight with Clotty where its not the biggest money and he has to prove he still deserves to be mentioned. Instead he got a PPV fight with one of the biggest stars in the sport. Oh well. He got beat but his bank account isn't hurting too much now. I don't even think he deserves a Cotto fight now. He really should be forced to rematch Clottey at 154.
