An unbiased account of this weekends boxing

Brandon Rios looks strong and I can't wait to see him in with better competition. Obliviously a fight with Victor Ortiz would be good drama and build up. I think Ortiz has the tools to beat Rios but the question is how will he react to the pressure. I still think pretty highly of Ortiz but I saw something in the Nate Campbell fight that bothered me. He dominated the fight but there was a point that Campbell was able to apply a bit of pressure and it seemed to really bother Ortiz though he was still winning the rounds. Talented fighter that doesn't like pressure. Reminds me of Zab Judah a bit.

People are surprised Mike Jones didn't look spectacular but to me he didn't look too spectacular on showbox a while back against lesser competition. He scored a KO on what appeared to be a low blow but struggled with his offense a little. On Sat he seemed to punch himself out early but part of me wonders if making weight helped that happen. He is tall and looked huge for that weight class. He was very muscular and didn't look like a fighter that weighed 145 the day before. He is a great prospect and has potential but some people may be expecting too much too soon. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up fighting at 154 soon as well.

Everytime I see Manny Pacquaio he adds a little something to make him more dangerous. I can see that they worked on his body punching and he looked good going to the body. Early in the fight Margarito looked like he knew what Pac had and was comfortable with it. Thats when he got suckered in and shocked like the others have. Great performance though the one thing I feared for Manny did happen when he got caught with that body shot. Manny is tough though and people have to stop coming into fights thinking they can stop him by catching hard once or twice. The final piece for Manny to develop and in my opinion and the most important if he ends up fighting you know who is his defense. He doesn't anticipate too much and just deals with his opponents offense as it comes. He also uses his offense to intimidate his opponent into not throwing. For the mega fight I think he has to change that. Its very possible that he may be able to improve in that area they way he has developed in other areas. The right hand is now dangerous and strong, the body work is there, now its time to work on avoiding being timed and hit by shots he is fast/skilled enough to avoid. Styles make fights. Hopefully we get the fight that everyone wants.

Pac/Marg fight was great to watch...along with briggs/vitali it was the most brutal fight i have seen live in a while..

Rios fight was interesting but still dont get why he does that little girly scream when he wins a fight (yes i find it funny when he screams)

Jones/Karass fight was a serious robbery and lederman deserves to be shot in the head or which ever other judge who voted against Karass...

have to give Briggs more credit than Tony for blocking Haevyweight punches with his face.

you can call Briggs or Tony a warrior, but the truth is coming forward to block punches with the face against the best fighters in the world who throw a lot of punches that actually hit you is either the dumbest game-plan of all time or fake proud.

Cotto moved at the end to not get hit as much and DLH didnt answer the bell.

well, you have to blame the corner not the fighter.

Rigondeaux fought a world class fighter in his 7th fight and Crodoba didnt know what to do. LMFO of course it was boring and not fan friendly, but you have to know when to go toe 2 toe or not.

just like Jones who couldnt finish off Karass in the 2th.

after Pac's win over Tony I think he is nr 1 p4p and Floyd should man up and fight him to be considered nr 1.

One thing that Pac has also fix is that he is no longer a sucker for a counter right (straight or hook).. He stopped the habit of lunging his punches and instead would use his footwork to get through the fighter's jab. This is the problem that he had with Marques because every time Pac would lunge and miss, JMM would take one step back to get leverage, and then would make return fire with his right to Pac's head or body..

The side to side movement and the in and out motion that Pac employs now is smoother and more balance.

As far as the Pac-May fight, I honestly believe that if Floyd is just goin' to employ a jab, to beat Pac in points, it's not goin to work.. The jab is not really an effective weapon against a southpaw considering that the angle of the shots is not there.. At some point Floyd will have to let his hands go and that will prove beneficial to Pac's case..

As far as styles..A fighter who employs constant pressure will always have a chance against a slick defensive fighter. Because it forces the boxer to trade .. If Pac can force May to trade with him in spots then maybe he can beat May..

PAC threw a wicked body shot in the 4th(?) that buckled Margarito

Briggs and Tony have no other options thats the problem. They are who they are. Fighting with a broken face takes courage that not many have. I knew Tony's corner wouldn't stop it epically since he hurt Pac at one point. The Briggs fight should have been stopped though. He never had even a glimmer of hope. Fighter who have more technical skill can survive without going toe to toe but Margarito because of foot speed, hand speed and skill was a sitting duck right away.

His body punching looks better than I have seen it in recent years.
