Yeah he fought well against William "Duran Killer" Joppy. Trinidad's victory against Joppy shouldn't be used to rate Trinidad as an elite fighter upwards 147, but as proof that Joppy was a better than average, good fighter, certainly not elite at all, at ANY time during his career.
Now Tito @ 147 was a god.
Maybe you should keep reading my posts throughout this thread.
Yes, he was at his best at 147. But, a 154 at his time he was the best in that weight-class. Nobody had done that to Joppy prior. NOBODY.
Name me another MW in 2001 besides Hopkins that you fell would of beaten Tito? Hell there was nobody from 160 on down who I said had any chance against Tito besides Hopkins and Winky obviously. If you think somebody else did. Then tell me who. So don't tell me Tito didn't belong at 160.
It is kind of hard for you power to be in effect when you can't land it flush consistently. He lost to winky who had one of the best defense of his era and Hopkins who also had one of the best defense and was a crafty mofo to boot. Also fought the perfect gameplan, who overall was just a better fighter.
Roy Jones? I mean yes Roy Jones was shot. But, so was Tito and fighting at 170 after a long layoff. Either that is LHW not MW which I clearly asked how didn't he have any business at MW? He had no business chasing a prime Roy Jones in 2001. Yes that I would agree but the way he destroyed Joppy in that manner which no other fighter had ever done before. And, consider Joppy was the 2nd best MW at that time.
Also considering that there only 2 fighters from MW down who you can say could beat Tito. Then I still need an explanation on how he had no business? Because, he was undefeated at 140?

Hopkins may have laster longer... but he didn't dominate right off the bat.
His first pro fight was a loss, he has draws in his prime, he lost to Jermain Taylor twice.
Roy on the other hand, dominated off the bat, he got his work in before Bernard did... Roy got there first.
Bernard has more "names" on his resume... but most all of those big names, had to move UP in weight to beat Bernard.
Roy may have less "name value" on his resume... but Roy moved UP in weight to beat all of those fighters.
Bernard has a record 20 title defenses.
Roy was the first MW to goto HW.. not too mention back down and regained LHW in over 100 years.
Roy was also the fighter of the 90's.
Bernard went from MW, skipped SMW, and beat a LHW champion.
Roy went from LHW, skipped CW, and beat a HW champion.
Bernard has been much more successful in his later years than Roy... but Roy was much more successful in the earlier years, than Bernard.
It isn't so cut and dry.. and it isn't so obvious who is better.

Not sure where I'd place him, top 50 most probably but I'll wait until his career is over before really putting thought into it. I wonder if he'll ever retire, I could see him coming to the ring with a Zimmer frame and still ruining up and comers

I know its all-time. Roid Jones fans are the ones who brought him up in the discussion. Just like you randomly brought up Tyson.Last edited by NChristo; 09-18-2010, 09:29 AM.

Hopkins is a great, in my view. If he beats Pascal, that would be very impressive, if he fights on to fifty and keeps winning, wow, that would be an amazing achievement! I think he should probably call it a career if he wins the next fight, and go out with a win over highly regarded opponent. Fighting once or sometimes twice a year is not in his favor at this age.
