While his son Erik Morales might have been a touch cryptic in his prediction yesterday regarding a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight, the father of Erik Morales ?Jose Morales ?was far more direct.
?b>I believe Manny Pacquiao will win the fight by the eighth round,?says Jose Morales, who taught his son Erik how to box at the age of five and was a former amateur boxer himself.
When asked why he believes Pacquiao will conquer Mayweather, Jose Morales explained, “He’s more aggressive. He’s very aggressive. He’s very sharp, throws many accurate punches and keeps the pressure on his opponents. That’s why he will win.?br />
I then ask if Mayweather can handle what Pacquiao will assault him with?
“No, he can’t,?answered Jose Morales. ?b>He show it with Jose Luis Castillo. He can’t handle that aggression. Mayweather is the kind of boxer where it is very dangerous for him ?the aggressive boxing ?because he can’t handle it.?br />
Next, I ask if he thinks Mayweather is scared to sign the contract to box Manny Pacquiao for an estimated $40,000,000?
?b>The punch of Manny Pacquiao can kill him very easily,?replies Morales, with no hesitation or doubt in his voice. ?b>It can put him down very easily. So he cannot handle that.?br />
I wonder if Jose Morales thinks Manny Pacquiao is superior to the version of Jose Luis Castillo that boxed Mayweather and gave him major trouble in their first fight especially?
“Yes, much more,?said Morales. “He’s very aggressive. Very aggressive.?br />
Finally, I wonder if the educated eyes of Jose Morales can see anybody out there on the current landscape who can defeat Manny Pacquiao. Morales pauses then offers an interesting name. “El Canelo. He’s fromm Guadalajara. He’s very strong, very young.?br />
Jose Morales was speaking of 20-year-old Saul Alvarez, the blossoming superstar who reportedly attracted a TV viewing audience of almost 60,000,000 for his last fight in Mexico, televised by network Televisa. Golden Boy-promoted Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KO’s) will box former Welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir on September 18 in Los Angeles on the Mosley-Mora undercard.
