If Ward loses to that guy, hell, I'll lock myself out of this account and never return in any form except reader. That's how sure I am that Ward takes him.

Ward and Dirrell are good friends though. It's always difficult to fight someone that you know pretty well outside the ring.

respectfully i disagree.....i see Direll as untapped potential......the guy can box, trained in Michigan (long history of producing smart boxers) and he has excellent amatuer pedigree. I really think he can be very very good. He had his back against the wall coming into the AA fight and he responded......he was towelling Abraham up before the DQ. He is still inexperienced....the more and more he fights the better he will get.

I get you, man, but my post is as much a reaction to anyone who thinks Ward is the goods being accused of buying into a hype or overrating him.



Some of us who dig this guy have been watching him for a minute, too, so we know what he's made of.



Ward was always kicking Green's ass. Green isn't in his Arena.

respectfully i disagree.....i see Direll as untapped potential......the guy can box, trained in Michigan (long history of producing smart boxers) and he has excellent amatuer pedigree. I really think he can be very very good. He had his back against the wall coming into the AA fight and he responded......he was towelling Abraham up before the DQ. He is still inexperienced....the more and more he fights the better he will get.

They both have a great amatuer pedigree and they are good friends. I like BOTH of them, that is why I can't wait for them to fight!

wait and see. Dirrell isn't going to be anything special and Ward's career will way overshadow his. Just watch.


Ward is a multi-stylist, great ring-general, has great control of range, excellent athlete, has a deep toolkit, so versatile. Dirrell is so far behind him it isn't funny. That Dirrell guy is no ring-general.


Going into the Super Six, people seemed more concerned with flashy-hands Dirrell. It annoyed me, because I knew what Ward could do and that Dirrell was nowhere near as good. So I'm loving that Ward is wowing people in this tournament while Dirrell embarrasses himself in both fights so far (even when he had a very favorable style matchup, he ended up embarrassing himself).

When Ward handily reduces Dirrell's nonsense to nothing, beats him mentally and physically, the demonstration of the Gulf in class between the two will be complete.


BTW, right before the DQ, Dirrell was fitting to get stopped by Abraham. I'm not saying it was a 100% gurantee that Dirrell couldn't somehow have scrambled out of it, but he didn't want any by that point. He was getting caught up to and he knew it.



It's going to take a really good fighter, not just a style, but an extremely good exponent of that style, or an extremely good fighter with a unique style, to beat Ward.


My only complaint is that he didn't get Green out of there tonight, because he really could've.

I'm with you on this here Check. Dirrell is a very smart Boxer, probably the smartest one that Ward will have faced thus far in his young career. This fight won't be the Andre Ward drubbings that we are becoming accustomed to. It'll be a very competetive fight IMHO, and we might see A. Ward do more outside fighting because of the style match up.

That's one way to soundly beat an awkward guy like Dirrell who likes to have it his way, if you have the ability to flip his world around on him.

And Dirrell is not really that smart a fighter. I didn't see smartness or ring-generalship against Froch or AA when the going got tough. Ward is way more intelligent in the ring and is way better in all mental departments.

I do give the ring IQ edge to Ward but I dont think Dirrell is too far behind him. Ward's mental toughness will more than likely be the deciding factor in their match up. But I do think that Dirrell controlled the AA fight more than yu're giving him credit for. He knew that AA comes on stronger as the fight proresses and gave more lateral movement as the rounds went on. When AA caught him with the cheap shot Dirrell was coasting to a sure fire victory.

I don't think it was sure-fire at all. Dirrell looked like a guy who wanted out of there and that's never a good sign. Without the DQ he might still have scrambled out of the fight, but Abraham was starting to come on in the latter 1:30's of those Championship rounds and you can bet he would have gone all out in the 12th and had Dirrell stressing to the final bell (if Dirrell made it there).


Although I like Abraham, the style matchup of AD to AA was extremely favorable to Dirrell. And Dirrell still looked awkward under the late pressure. This guy's supposed to be a slickster, but he doesn't put it together like one.


Of course he's not garbage. It's not my style to dismiss a fighter that way. I just think people overestimate him and what his limits are.
