why do people question the reason why Floyd didn't win?
It's simple. He quit. He stopped fighting boxers and fought The Big Show instead. Then when he came back, instead of a bonafide Welter (Punisher, Margarito, Manny), he took on a lightweight. Then he took on Shane, respectable...but inactive (fact), overtrained (confessed by his trainer) and 38 yrs old (as proven by his birth certificate).
Floyd is a boxing and money-making machine, but he certainly ain't no media darling.
He didn't win because he simply didn't deserve it, and the public image he displays is that of the stereotypical distraught "used-to-be-poor black youth with money so I'm gonna flash it now that I have it." The MTV Cribs rapper life. The Pacman Jones life.
Floyd is still an incredible fighter, and even in his 30's, there isn't a boxer who can match his skill set. Methodically breaks down opponents, tough chin, good speed, sick ring generalship (especially the way he clowned Shane), etc.
Dude has it all. But the critics still ask what's the motive behind USADA testing a guy who has a superstition about giving blood (a well-founded superstition that stemmed from a Loss after a previous blood test too close to the fight against Morales).
Floyd could've fought those welters and beat em, but he didn't. he quit. he left. Had he stayed and fought (and beat) Margs, Punisher, Shane (which we all know he can beat all 3).....then EASILY FOTD. And arguably top 15 or even 10....ATG.
