As much as Ray Robinson was the greatest boxer to ever live, and Mayweather surely isn't as great as many boxers,

It doesnt honestly make much sense to say that Sugar Ray Robinson would beat Mayweather for a few reasons,

    1. Athletes today are far better physical specimen than they were even 20 years ago, let alone 50-60,

NBA players from back then could not compete with those of today, NFL players from back then could not compete, Any major sport they really dont match up,
In the olympics world records are broken every time just because of that fact, you dont have people like usain bolt and Michael Phelps 50-60 years ago

    2. Boxing school of thought expands just like any field, boxers today have all of the teachings that Sugar Ray Robinson did plus 60 years of new schools of boxing methods, whats effective/whats not, what to do, its like someone could take his style of fighting and add new elements to it

    3. Ray Robinson was prolific because he fought so many fights without losing, this is a man who would fight 5+ times a year, for decades, its not the same today, the best fighters can realistically only fight 2 times a year, thats not because hes a million times better, if he fought today he would be doing the same thing, physically it takes too much out of you, hes nothing more than a man, he cant handle much more than all the great boxers.

Its no disrespect because i currently like Floyd Mayweather, I have far more respect for Sugar Ray Robinson, Mayweather in my opinion may be the best boxer to ever live, but certainly not the greatest by any means

I haven't seen enough of prime SRR and I sure alot of people haven't. The very little that I've seen of him hasn't really impressed me. Alot of his bouts consist of rabbit punching and excessive holding. So again, I can't really answer the question. Also I mean no offense by this, really don't.

This is a good post however in some respects you must take into account some of the factors that you've laid out here when comparing fighters from different eras. For example, when comparing SRR and Mayweather, one thing to keep in mind is that if SRR was born in today's era he would have been exposed to all the advanced techniques and nutrition of Floyd's day and age as well so it's safe to say that he would have probably been even greater than he already was as he would have been stronger, more agile, with more stamina thanks to today's modern advances etc.

It amazes that people on this forum after 41 fights. STILL have no idea how good Floyd is. This dude is not some bum who every ATG would beat. Cut that out.

floyd isn't a bum. no one said that. but ray robinson is on anther level.
he wouldnt have cared what is opponents took, he'd still go and
                  knock them out

Is that suppose to be a knock on Floyd because he cares if his opponent is cheating? You do think Robinson would? Like why? Where did that come from.

I see alot of posters just following the other sheep and saying SRR was the best thing since sliced bread rather then come up with their own conclusions.

There is not ONE fighter on Robinsons resume that you can honestly say is MORE skilled and talented then Floyd. So people need to stop acting like SRR would steam roll him like hes not even there.

No I'm saying they really shouldn't even be compared. Who knows how they could've matched up against each other. Only God knows the answer to that question. So we have to judge by what we read about SRR. The two sugars to me are untouchable. Especially SRL he was my favorite Sugar.
