Oh **** when a fighter gets knocked down that must mean he is overrated, especially at 6-0.

Clinching as a form of strategy is not illegal. Clinching 10-12 times a round while being active entering and exiting the clinch with punches is not illegal. It's a defensive maneuver to allow the fighter more adept at the clinch to control the tempo of a bout. Now, if a guy does nothing but continuously hold for a long period of time, the referee views it as possibly a reason to stop a match because it's no longer competitive.

Like I said, it's all about being active with punches entering and exiting the clinch. Do that, and you can clinch all day long. It's when guys do nothing but fall into clinches that pisses off refs. Any referee that warns guys for clinching, as long as they are punching entering or exiting the clinch with legal blows, that referee is making a mistake.

Also, looking busy in a clinch will also make a referee ignore the clinch. Get that left hand free and slam it into your man's liver as he enters the clinch. If one boxer has an arm free and is fighting, the ref won't stop the clinch alot of times.

        good post
Ive read some articles about it where it was stated as a technically illegal technique. Teddy Atlas also talks about it in his book. What did you make of the ref for the Berto Collazo fight?

I don't think ward is overrated and I don't take too much into early career knockdowns, those are learning experiences and ward has clearly improved to the point of being a great fighter, where he is at today.

With that said I always felt going into the tournament dirrell would be the toughest matchup for ward out of any of the guys in the super six. In fact I will say he's the only guy that has a shot at beating ward. No one else, not froch not abraham not green can beat ward. dirrell has the tools to beat him but I question if he is mentally tough enough to get down and dirty with ward, because that's exactly what ward will do - try to rough him up and make it a dirty fight.

ward was floored against darnell boone and ran for the remainder of the fight, winning a very close decision
was running against derrick findley to a boring decision with alot of holding and preventing findley from punching(a guy dirrell destroyed and stopped)
i never seen the kenny kost fight, but i doubt he destroyed him like dirrell
he also has pretty much no power, i dont think he has ever gotten a legit KO(kept the guy down for the ten count)

the guy is getting unbelievably overrated because of a win over mikkel kessler, who in all fairness would probabley end up getting more ****ed up against dirrell who opens up cuts on alot of fighters faces with punches(not headbutts)

the sooner you realise dirrell is the future, the more money you will earn in bets

Dirrell has skill, but lacks the heart to be a great fighter. He complains too much, runs too much and emotionally is a coiled spring,so no,he isnt the future.

Ward, and Bute are both overrated IMO, but then again they do deserve to be ranked at the top of the division.

but the guy is extremely overrated
dirrell got knocked down, ok, but did he run for the remainder of the fight? did he barely squeez out a victory? he won every round except for the round where he was knocked down by a bomb of a overhand right hook and got up easy and continued to dominate
both got knocked down in their seventh fight, it's how they reacted to it that determines who's the more composed, wards freaked and panicked

obviously ward has more ring smarts than hopkins at this point, ward has been to the olympics and is pro

dont be getting all butt hurt, i never said he wasn't a good fighter, but he's nowhere near to dirrell level, believe what you want
Dirrell vs Curtis Stevens... Explain that? lol
Ward isnt overrated, he has tremendous skills and very well rounded fighter in all categories of boxing.. Dirrell has no inside fighting skills whatsoever. He either clinches or falls on the ground in fear of getting him because he doesnt know how to fight on the inside. Ward can fight on the inside and outside
