At the same time, i think that the Pacquiao vs fight is a great example that you can win a fight base on activity alone if your opponent doesn't thrown that many punches. I don't care how useless some people thinks compubox punch stat is, but it can really makes a difference on how to score a fight. Let say if you land 290 punches, while you opponents lands 295 or 300, i think whomever win in the power punches vs power punches category should win regardless of whom lands more total punches.
No by that logic, a fighter can throw/land his best shots in the first 4 rounds, blow his load and do nothing for the remaining 8 rounds and still win the decision IF he landed more punches total.

That's why round by round scoring is the best way and who is controling that round. Yes compubox stats tell the story 85% of the time but not always. There is more to boxing then simple counting of punches.

Lets go round by round and what's being thrown/landed in that particular round.

By your logic, a fighter could land all the clean power shots in the first 4 rounds and do nothing in the next 8 rounds and win the fight IF the total punches landed are in his favor.
I don't think so. I don't see how that can happen, but as long that fighter keeps landing clean shots in the next 8 rounds and not get hit enough, he/she should win that fight.

hence "effective aggression" throw 1200+ punches in a fight and only landing 20% is down right terrible

pac def won the fight b/c clottey didnt do anything but when clottey let his hands go, he was more effective than pac and hit pac at will

all pac showed in that what was that he couldnt adjust and didnt know how to break clotteys defence. plus he was getting frustrated

You're under the assumption that the other fighter will land clean punches.

I just gave you an example of fighter- X landing his best shots in the first 4 rounds, gassing out and not doing much else. For all we know, fighter-X may go into Clottey mode covering up for the rest of the fight. That means that the other fighter may not land much in the next 8 but if he stays busy, that person will win 8-4 in rounds and not necessarly in landed punch stats.

I agree with that, compubox doesn't always tells the whole story. The total landing shots doesn't always tells the whole story, but i think power shots vs power shots is a more relevant way to see whom dominate in the fight, but it doesn't always tells the whole story.

If fighter X go into Clottey mode, fighter X should definitely lose that fight. The other fighter should win the fight on activity alone.

                  ok...

less effective punching = just clean punching
effective punching = clean punching + stops offense of opponent momentarily
very effective punching = clean punching + hurts/wobbles/stuns opponent

pwill on average is a harder puncher than floyd, agree? therefore pwill's punching will on a whole be effective punching, while floyd's punching will be less effective punching because of his lack of pop.

if pwill lands 50 less effective punches and 50 effective punches and floyd only lands 10 less effective punches and 40 effective punches. then who wins the fight in your estimation?

Best offence my ass. Best defence yeah. Floyd has cherry picked opponents since his days as a lightweight. He is very talented but has he seeked the biggest challenges and hardest fights, while looking phenomenal? i.e. like Pacquiao? Hells no. Pac beat Hatton at Hatton's NATURAL WEIGHT; i.e. taking the biggest challenge. KO'd him in 2. Floyd took 10 rounds with Hatton at WW (and Hatton's previous fight at WW was a debatable dec. over Collazo). Mosley will be the best guy Floyd's ever fought. And even he's been inactive for nearly a year and a half, christ

hes the most accurate puncher in the game, has the highest connect percentage and takes the least punishment.

that means he has the most effective having the best offence and defense in the game
