I think he'll end up being underrated. People will look at the disaster that is the end of his career and assume he was always a glass jawed fighter taking advantage of lesser opposition. Those of us who saw him will remember exactly how great Roy Jones Jr. was.

      ATG definitely...

I think people on here either forget or weren't following Boxing during the 90s and early 2000s. The way dudes drool over Floyd now is exactly how it was with Roy.

He didn't have a lot of huge fights during his prime years, but if you look at the landscape of opponents during his time there wasn't any huge money making fights with other big names...which is mainly why he just climbed up divisions and captured titles.

C'mon, 1 of only 2 Middleweights ever to climb up and claim a Heavyweight crown? After the age of 30???

ATG, could've been greater - like top 10 great, but high ATG nevertheless.

But in the same light, look at Ali's last 5 years in the sport. How many people focus on that more than his battles with Frazier, his monumental fight with Foreman, and of course the famous Liston pic?

Yeah, but Ali had so many great victories after his prime and was so much bigger a figure in sports than Roy ever was. I hope I'm wrong but I think Roy is going to get overlooked in historical rankings and matchups.

An ATG with awesome skills. Prime Roy is head and shoulders above the rest, if you dont believe it then i suggest you check Prime Roy skills. Roy is the ****ing man in his hayday and i dont care what anyone else thinks.

He will be remembered as a great fighter with great skills and being one of the greatest athletes to put on gloves, he will also be remembered for looking so untouchable in his prime. Unfortunately aswell as that he will also be remembered for taking that one fight too many, but that is all down to him loving what he does so nobody can really blame him.

So a true ATG, with ATG skills and resume basically sums it up for me.

not many greats had a great end. look at ali. people should remember and judge you on your best not your end. like who takes holifield after lennox serious. we judge them when they were at their best. roy is prob the most talented boxer ever. not the most technical but he didnt need to be. he put on a show for his fans and the crowd. prime roy would beat anyone 190 and down. and give osme heavys a tough fight. speed timing reflexs in his prime would have made it hard for any HW and unbeatable for any one his size
