In five years, most of our favorite boxers will be retired or way past prime, punching himself out of his own misery until boxing becomes the death of him. From 2009 and out,
Miguel Cotto will be 34 (already stated he has a couple more fights before he hangs them up)
Manny Pacquiao will be 36
Ricky Hatton will be 36 (signs of his decline are already evident)
Floyd Mayweather will be 37
Wladmir Klitschko will be 38
Juan Manuel Marquez will be 41
Shane Mosley will be 43
Vitali Klitschko will be 43
Roy Jones Jr. will be 46 (its pretty clear the Roy of the 90s is no longer with us)
Bernard Hopkins will be 50 (by the looks of it he's looking to set up his last few fights by this year)
Of course there are a lot more but these are just a few worth mentioning.
A lot of you following the sport religiously probably notice a pattern in fighters of our era either retire early or retire too late in their careers. Nowadays, top fighters make enough money to retire early, leaving fans yearning for more, dreaming of what fights could have been if fighter a fought fighter b. Not to worry I do realize there are many up and coming fighters but again there will never be another Mayweather or Pacquiao. They are one of a kind, at least for me anyways.
So this is an appreciation for the fighters of this decade, giving us the exhilirating, adrenaline filled entertainment we love so much called boxing.
