[QUOTE=Carnivore;7288255]Kassim Ouma is actually NOT shot or "past-prime" at age 31 - he's actually probably near his best.

That's ignorant to only look at his age to question whether he's over the hill. How old was Fernando Vargas when he was past his prime? Or Eric Morales. Terry Norris? Never mind. You're too dumb to figure it out.

He has his own mind when it comes to boxing... I sometimes score rounds also with my own point system... sometimes I give a 20-19 round if I feel like it... it's the way it goes today in boxing

I would like for the boxing commisiions all over the world to invent a new flexible point system... probably we start a petition so that Carnivore can get some cred. back

Interesting how some here at boxingscene are so excited at Erislandy Lara fighting Grady Brewer, who turns 40 this year, calling it a "big step up". If Lara has a difficult fight with old Brewer, they'll call it "a good experience for him". But the same people are extremely hard on Vanes for some reason.

Kassim had a big advantage in experience over Vanes, but Martirosyan's greater talent enabled him to prevail.
Well to exaggerate a bit. The reason could be that Brewer hasn´t lost in five years and Ouma hasn´t won in five years.

I scored it 95-94 for Vanes. I gave a round-by-round in the discussion thread.

And here's my earlier post in this thread, edited last night ater a typo I made because I was tired:

Ouma had a big advantage in experience, having fought far better opposition than Vanes, and that showed during the fight. But Ouma seemed hurt and very tired in the last 30 seconds of the 10th, I think if it had been a 12 round fight, Kassim would have been stopped.

This fight gives Vanes valuable experience he's going to need at the highest level.

just got home from the fight and watched the fight on tape. for all you supposed objective boxing fans, i got one thing to say go watch the fight again. the right man won the fight, even if round 9 was scored 10-8 in favor of Vanes still clearly won 6 of the 10 rounds clearly and that would give it a score of 95-94... there were a couple close rounds that couldve gone either way, but overall vanes connected better quality punches and deserved to win. Fox Sports West commentators are morons...
One thing all you haters forget to mention is that Vanes agreed to fight this guy less than a month after his last fight. show me what other current fighter would take such a fight given his last fight was less than a month ago.
Ouma admitted after the fight that he was in the greatest shape of his life for this fight and held nothing back and trained really hard for the fight of his life.
good lesson for vanes as he grows to be a world champion!!!

I know everyone wants to bash vanes for this performance but atthe end of the day he was fighting a revitalized ouma, this was more if the ouma of ok'd vs te more recent ouma who had been struggling. Again good lesson for vanes but please don't act like this is the end of vanes evryone champion out there has had such a fight and has bounced back stronger!!! Remember delahoya vs sturm? Knockdown happen, heck angulo and Kirkland have been dropped several times and nobody makes a big stink about those..:
I havent actually seen Angulo dropped.

Vanes needs to fight Archak to see who the next Armenian stepping stone will be!

All BS aside the guy is like a harder punching version of Yuri Foreman with less head movement. I think he can make some really fun exciting fights if matched with other power punchers like Cintron, Santos, Angulo but i dont see him beating Martinez or PWill with anything other than a lucky punch. A real good test would be a fight with Joel Julio because of Julios footwork and boxing ability.

Because I used to have all kinds of problems accessing the front page on this site. Regardless I like to read more than just one source when it comes to close fights.

"Nuthugging?" What are you, 14? Grow up.

I'm not really a Vanes fan. He's okay. Still a prospect. I don't put much stock in prospects. I like proven guys like Pacquiao, the Klitschkos, Mosley, etc. Regardless of his recent record, Ouma put in a good performance, simple as that. I didn't say that Vanes would beat Martinez or Williams, I just said that he would've hurt just about anybody with that last left hook. It was a helluva shot.
