so far it's the calzaghe path. that salita fight was picture perfect calzaghe. maidana is a tricky one. calzaghe never had to fight someone that dangerous. warren is probably so pissed at the wba for forcing such a tough fight.

But if he's only in it for the money and is happy to be Warren's puppet, he'll drop the belt and fight someone like Malignaggi or Ortiz (no disrespect to either of them; they're just not the ones whom Khan should be fighting right now).
I dont think i've ever agreed with so many posts in one thread before, but i like this one the best.
Khan has to take this fight. He should be able to batter him, but one punch from Maidana could change everything. I agree with the poster who said Khan will drop him time and time again until the ref jumps in. And everyone will say Maidana was rubbish all along, but this is his mandatory, get it out of the way or it will be a straight up duck.
Fight Paulie after and look great, then try to unify the division (or maybe even a mega fight with Hatton in the UK).

No brainer to me, Khan HAS to take this fight or it will look (and rightly so) that he's scared to go in the ring with a puncher.

I am pretty sure Khan will bypass the Maidana fight. I hope I am proved wrong.

I don't think Khan would mind getting in the ring with Maidana. In fact, I'm fairly sure he would love to silence his critics.

However, he's still very young, and there's too much money to be made from him ... IF his career is managed "properly". This is a high risk / low reward fight and his handlers may see this fight as being too dangerous at this stage of his career.

This has the potential to be a very exciting fight. Personally, I hope he takes it.

he is afraid of the power punchs of Maidana. Power puncha vs a glass child and bad defence = KO
I dont like Maidana and I dont like Khan but Warren and Roach are protecting Khan, Maidana is not the best of the division but probably the most dificult for Khan

TheAuthority,That is how I see it. Khan has his family wrapped around him, Frank Warren soon a US promoter all looking to make money out of his career. None of them want the wheels to come off their money spinner. I imagine who he fights next is a committee decision and not down to Khan with his family being the key influence. That is why I think we will see a lot more padding of his record before he fights dangerous opponents. While the paying public are prepared to pay for Pay per view there is no reason why he should take risks.

imho, khan shouldn't fight a big puncher yet. campbell would be a good fight.

I was thinking on similar lines initially. However, a big punch is not required to hurt khan (see Limond / Gomez). Maidana may actually be a relatively safe option for 2 main reasons -

                    1) Maidana's boxing ability isn't the best. Khan has the skills to comfortably outbox Maidana without taking too many risks.
                    2) Maidana's chin isn't the best and I'm sure khan will hurt him if/when he connects and Kahn is a decent finisher.

So he could possibly out point Maidana using the same tactics as the Kotelnik fight, or a stoppage in Khan's favour is quite possible.

I'm thinking a less powerful counterpuncher with decent skills and a chin could be Khans downfall rather than a (another) "crude" power puncher??? All that's required is an accurate, well timed counter to hurt Khan. A massive punch is not required......

                      khan chose the mayweather path.....

surely, his team saw the danger in maidana.

                      he lost a fan today.
