TOP RANK STATEMENT REGARDING MARGARITO/MOSLEY
"We are dismayed to read the statement of attorney Judd Burstein accusing Top Rank, in effect, of not telling the truth that Shane Mosley, Mr. Burstein's client, has refused to fight welterweight champion Antonio Margarito. Late yesterday, we were informed in a telephone conversation with a top programming executive for a top television network that Mr. Burstein had, indeed, informed that network that Shane would not fight Antonio under any circumstances. Of course, it is possible that the television executive misunderstood Mr. Burstein; or, perhaps more logically, that Mr. Burstein's statement to the television executive did not reflect his client's view of the matter. We are herewith making a firm offer to Shane Mosley to fight Antonio Margarito this summer for the welterweight championship. We will agree to pay a purse to Mr. Mosley of $1,100,000 for his participation in the bout. We will ask Mr. Mosley for no options or future rights regarding his career. If he defeats Antonio, which we regard as doubtful, he would be absolutely free to pursue his career in any manner he sees fit as the new welterweight champion. To accept this offer, all Shane, or Judd, have to do is send a fax to Top Rank accepting the offer with our permission for him to release such fax to the media."
