This is from BEFORE the fight with Cotto. Roach says Cotto is damaged goods.
Therefore, ANY victory over him is less impressive. How could it be otherwise? Your opponent was "damaged".
Oscar "couldn't pull the trigger". Hatton "can't make weight".
Etc. Etc.
Freddie has basically explained before each of Manny's last three fights that each rival was washed up, in decline, or recovering. Therefore, he established beforehand Manny couldn't have a good night. There was a 'catch'.
Don't get mad at me. Freddie said it.
Floyd meanwhile, defeated an Oscar and a Hatton in their primes.
Making his victories more impressive.
ANY time you fight a guy, whether it be in the ring, or on the street (I realize neither happens to 90% of the tough guys on here- playing Nintendo Wii doesn't count) and someone says the guy you beat was "damaged goods" or "can't pull the trigger" in a fight- YOU know it automatically dilutes any victory you got. You don't look tough or impressive, you look weak for beating up a guy who was in bad health.
So why is it different in this case?
