The statement, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it is like saying", don't try to IMPROVE because it ain't broke. The problem is, sometimes its broke - you just don't know any better that it is.

Nevertheless, some people are just thick-headed and don't want to learn and improve, look at what happened to Hatton (Mayweather Sr). Alot of it ends up being the fighter not wanting to change what he's comfortable with.Last edited by funks; 11-19-2009, 12:00 AM.

Hey Shawn what's up. I have seen a couple of your pro fights and have noticed people saying you look like Miguel Cotto when you fight, that's not true you're way faster in hand speed and your footwork is a lot better than his. If this is really you then welcome to Boxingscene and just to let you know you have no haters on here yet but be sure to look out for them especially when you start making serious money and more fame, they'll come out of left field.

On the flip side though, a guy like Jermaine Taylor was undefeated and ditched his trainer. I thought that was a bad move but everyone assumed that a legend like Steward would make him better. I just dont think it was fair to ditch a guy who has you unbeaten. You definatly shouldnt wait until you lose to make a move so I understand that but just because a guy has a bigger name, doesnt mean he's going to work better with you. Taylor has looked terrible ever since

I truly hope that you try seeking other trainers to train you the future, not just stick with your dad. Nothing to do with your dad's skills but there are lots of great trainers out there, and like artists - they all bring something unique to the table.
Trainers aren't omniscient, they miss certain things that other trainers might be able to point out. Hence, to further improve your skill - I hope you mix your trainers up and listen to what they have to say.
It's just like going to school, it wouldn't be wise to stick to just one teacher..

Kenny is doing a fine job as a trainer, and he is a GREAT guy to top it off, nothing is broken so there is nothing to fix.
They have an incredible relationship, and Shawn is well focused, well mannered, stays on the straight and narrow and Undefeated, so why in the world would anyone even think about making a change? Ridiculous. But, that said, Shawn did just spend a month working with Pacman and Freddie Roach - do you really think Roach didn't give Porter some instruction too? lol
I can't wait to see Shawn in action after training with and going toe to toe with the best fighter on the planet right now. Freddie Roach said that Shawn has ALL the tools to be a World Champion - I think I will take his word for it.
BTW, here is a little trivia for you about Shawn - he was also an incredible Running Back in High School, he went to the same school as one VERY famous NFL Hall Of Famer, and btw, he broke that HOF's High School Rushing Record.
Now, ask Shawn who that Running Back was....
