If you are real on here then you know that Im real about Floyd. Im not a Floyd homer that takes up for him no matter what, Im not a Floyd hater who bashes him no matter what, and Im not a Floyd fan who jumps ship when they think others are getting the best of him only jump back on the wagon again later.
I seriously think that the hate he is getting on here by fans, media, mainstream, and boxers is unwarranted. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. The only questionable fight I ever thought he had was the Bruseles fight. Every other fight he has was super legit to me and even moreso, the reason why he didnt fight guys is legit but no one wants to hear that. They just look at it as if you dont fight a guy then youre a *****.
Breaking down his career I think even the haters have to aknowledge he was a beast guy who fought all the best until JLC 1. That fight was a close fight that I clearly thought he won but people wont him to lose so bad that any close fight will go against him. Still, he maned up and gave JLC the rematch immediatly. Alot of people forget that JLC got hurt right before the rematch and the fight was postponed. In the meantime Floyd tried to still fight a top notch guy like Lazcano who was very highly regarded at the time but Juan turned it down. Floyd couldve easily had ditched the JLC fight after the injury but he waited until he was healthy and took the rematch. I remember Max on FNF's saying that if Floyd had pulled out with that injury like JLC did then everyone would be ripping him. Floyd stayed and won a clear decision.
After that fight he fought a tough guy in Sosa in a fight that everyone felt Floyd deserved to take after all the tough guys he had fought. Recently Floyd had just fought a Chico at SFW who was coming in the ring at 147 pounds, JLC at LW who was coming in the ring at 148 while Floyd was 138 for both fights. He then took on a very good guy in N'Dou who alot of people picked to beat Floyd and gave him praise for his performance. Again, alot of people dont want to aknowledge the fact that Floyd tried to make a fight with the undefeated Freitas but was turned down. Alot of people say that Floyd shouldve fought Casamayor but why fight him after Freitas just beat him and was popular? The big fights were Naz before he left SFW and Freitas before he left LW and both turned him down along with Lazcano. That cant be disputed.
He then moves to SLW and fights a very good Chop Chop in his 1st fight. A slick boxer who was a legitmate world champ with a good resume and recently lost to Zab in a close fight while having not lost before that in years. Floyd recently just had the exciting fight with guys like Chico, Manfredy, Chavez, and was just coming off of another super exciting fight with N'Dou. He again had an exciting fight with Chop. Again at SLW he's only coming into the ring at 138 pounds. I clearly remember articles after the JLC fight where many media people said that Floyd doesnt have the body to move up in weight and will never win titles in many divisions because he is too frail. He then had the fight with Bruseles that I said he could be ripped for. He couldve takened a Vivian Harris fight but at that time Floyd had his eye on the prizes and that was Gatti & Oscar. He was saying non stop back then that he felt like he was making slave wages, Arum was taking more than he should for not fighting, and he never promoted him like he did others and never put him on PPV. Thats why I think he didnt want the Harris fight.
You also have to remember that the WBO President and Hatton's father both admitted that Floyd asked to fight them in his very 1st fight at SFW. Again, no one talks about that anymore. Everyone tries to bash him for making little Hatton move up to fight big bad Floyd but Floyd tried to fight big bad Hatton in England when he was moving up from LW. Gatti also wanted no part of Floyd but was forced to fight him if he wanted to keep the belt. Floyd again had another exciting fight. This is for all the people who said the guy is so boring. He had many exciting fights up until then and stopped alot of guys. Because he's Floyd, no one will give him the benefit of doubt but I still maintain to this day that if Tsyzu beat Hatton then Floyd wouldve fought him next. People have to remember that Floyd had a contract with HBO and Tszyu had one with Showtime. Both guys were elite but not super money guys. Remember everyone was saying that no one except a Lewis-Tyson fight could get Showtime & HBO to split money.
However, the Hatton fight was Tsyzu's last fight in the contract and after that Showtime openly said that they are going to single fight deals. That made it super easy to now make Floyd-Tszyu and both guys talked alot about the fight. Pretty much everyone thought Tszyu would win. In that regard Floyd has had very bad luck. Naz, Lazcano, & Freitas turned him down. Hatton turned him down in his 1st fight and the JLC injury left Floyd sitting out for a minute. If all those things fall into place then Floyd couldve fought Naz at 128 in his very next fight after Chico, then Chavez, then JLC, then JLC again 4 months sooner if he doesnt have that injury, Sosa, N'Dou, Hatton in his very 1st fight, Gatti, then Tszyu. The only reason why Floyd even fought Bruseles is because the WBC kept allowing Gatti to ditch the Floyd fight. Now Floyd moves up to WW. Spinks was recognized by everyone is the true WW champ and Zab beat him. Floyd & Zab started beefin. Everyone was talking about a Zab vs Floyd fight. Both guys were basicaly having a tuneup. Zab vs Baldy and Floyd fighting Mitchell because he's a slick Southpaw just like Zab and it helps him have 1 fight to get use to WW.
Both guys had already signed the fight. Everyone knew it but no one talks about that now. Zab lost to Baldy in a disputable fight but Floyd still fought him next because the fight was signed. Everyone clowned Floyd and said that he should fight the real WW champ. He did that and beat him. If you look at all of that, his career is totally fine to me up until that point and it should be fine to everyone else unless you are a die hard hater. To take it to another level the man challanges Shane Mosley and says that he wants Mosley than Oscar. This is while Mosley is at 154 and just beat Vargas the 1st time. Even before there rematch Vargas camp admitted that Floyd said he wants the winner even if its Vargas but Vargas team said they werent interested. Oscar comes around and agrees to fight Floyd. Floyd moves up and takes all the shorts because the money is just too good. After that he fights Hatton because the guy is an undefeated and its another big money fight. Again, you cant knock him for any of those fights. Now comes the tricky part. Theyre is Cotto & Margarito there who wants a Floyd fight but he elects to retire.
