I've just rewatched and rescored Froch-Dirrell...

... I wanted to see it with the Showtime commentary. (The UK team were very pro-Dirrell, incidentally, and said he deserved the win).

It's difficult to score a fight when you know the result as you're influenced by the outcome, even unconsciously. That said, the second time around I noticed that Froch landed a fair bit more than I'd previously taken on board, and that Dirrell was far more overtly negative than I'd recalled.

Dirrell impressed me on the night, but not so much the second time round. With all his bitching, holding and generally faggy behaviour then instead of "The Matrix" he should call himself "The Gay Tricks". Thankyou, you've been a wonderful audience.

Anyway, the first time I had it 115-112 Dirrell, possibly wider. Here's my second scoring of the fight:

ROUND ONE - This is a "pick em" round, with little landed, cagey as ****. I gave it Dirrell because of a fast counter and a bit where he made Froch miss badly, but then you could also look at the bit where Dirrell throws two jabs that are about a foot away from their intended target in pure "****, I hope I don't get hit back, my chin's a bit Khanian" fashion. Froch lands a couple of decent body shots, and there's so little happening you could easily give it to the defending champion without any problem at all. For close rounds here I'm gonna put a "C" after my score:

    Dirrell 10-9 (C)

ROUND TWO - I hadn't realised just what a faggot Dirrell was at this stage, as I was impressed by his speed and embarrassed at how slow and wild he made Froch look. But the guy's just playing kiss chase here... he's making Froch miss, but even if Froch scores two landed punches that's two more than Dirrell. Andre's saying isn't "if you make your opponent miss, you've gotta make him pay", it's "if you make your opponent miss... you make him miss and then do fuck all." I'm gonna switch the scoring of this one from my original card. Incidentally, I got a laugh out of the Fat Yank commentators explaining where Nottingham is, particularly in relation to London. Whenever I see a card of Fat Yank boxing the UK commentators never have to explain where it is geographically.

    Froch 10-9 (C)

ROUND THREE - I was surprised that even the Fat Yank publications that scored it for Dirrell gave Froch this round. Yet even here, where Dirrell gives some great offence, you could still make an argument that it's close - though I won't personally. The reason is, that weird thing that makes Fat Yanks say Witter ran against Judah (I didn't think he did, personally - bias Brit) but that Dirrell showed "mad skillz". I admired Dirrell but there's times in this round where it's like he's heard a starter pistol.

    Dirrell 10-9

ROUND FOUR - They actually cut to Froch's girlfriend in between rounds here, really making a feature of it. They might as well just show a subtitle saying "can you believe it?" She's a bit common and accuses Dirrell of fighting like something - can any northern Englishmen interpret? Is it "faggot" or "bag head"? Anyway, this round's hard to score, in a sense... although Dirrell is landing the better shots and planting his feet, what little Froch is landing is clearly having more of an effect as the Negron spends the second half of the round bleeding from the nose and mouth. Due to this I'll mark it up as a close one to see where we're at at the end.

    Dirrell 10-9 (C)

ROUND FIVE - Amazing how much Tarver's is swinging on Dirrell's nuts here, though it's his best round so far. Froch's frustration shows with the throwdown and his second hit on the break. Tough ****... if your opponent's outboxing you, what do you expect him to do? Stand in front of you and stick his chin out?

    Dirrell 10-9

ROUND SIX - Dirrell's starting to lose focus here as Froch heats up and he slows down. He goes down to the canvas at least three times in the round, all three of which are his fault - the guy's hugging and going down more often than Bigpoppapump when he sees Reeno. As the guy is stinking the joint out here then you could call it close, but I just can't do it, because when he's not acting the **** he's doing lots of good work.

    Dirrell 10-9

ROUND SEVEN - Froch is getting rough in there, but he's making Andre fight his fight. Dirrell seems to need his second wind here, and he's pissing and moaning to the ref like a little ****er.

    Froch 10-9

ROUND EIGHT - I did have to LOL when they described Carl as "putting on a clinic" in terms of fouling. This was a close round to score. I was giving it to Dirrell for clean work, though smiling at how, whenever he landed a punch, he'd instantly retreat to about 20 feet away afterwards. But then Andre is clearly momentarily stiffened in the last 20-30 seconds of the round. I'm kind of shading towards Froch for that big rally.

    Froch 10-9 (C)

ROUND NINE - Not as many disgusting rabbits as I'd remembered, but in some ways you've gotta admire the brass balls of Froch in that he rabbit punches Dirrell flush on the back of the head as the referee's in the middle of telling him off for rabbit punching Dirrell on the back of the head. Amazing. Froch is getting nearer here and Dirrell's coming apart quite a bit. Close round.

    Froch 10-9 (C)

ROUND TEN - It's amazing how the commentary can sway you. Although the UK team were heavily pro-Dirrell and had him winning the fight, they didn't ****** when Froch wobbled at the end. It seemed worse than I recalled, though in no way does getting wobbled by a SMW who hits you flush with a punch you don't see coming mean you have a "weak chin", NSB. Up until the last thirty seconds though Froch was doing what he wanted in there. Ironically that point deduction (questionable) spurred Dirrell on. Due to the nature of the deduction I have to score this an even round.

    9-9

ROUND ELEVEN - I don't believe that Froch was actually hurt in this round like the Fat Yank commentators insisted he was. Regardless, this was Dirrell coming back into it. Fairly competitive though, given that it was stylistically the kind of fighting that should favour (favor, Fat Yanks) Froch.

    Dirrell 10-9

ROUND TWELVE - Dirrell's negativity makes these rounds closer than they should be, though I don't believe he would have come off best in a toe-to-toe battle the whole fight despite his patches of success in that regard. Another round for Dirrell here.

    Dirrell 10-9

Okay, 115-112 Dirrell exactly as the first time I scored it. Though I note I did mark two close rounds (the first legitimately close) so it could have been 114-113 Froch without too much fuss. Though that would have been the ref's fault for the deduction.

In many ways it was Dirrell losing the fight rather than Froch winning it. That said, it was Froch's presence that made Dirrell negative in the first place.

How does your score card not change when you admit you seen Froch land more punches this time than the first time

    lol

the whole argument was according to some, Froch never landed a single punch.

You fail butter but nice try, glad you watched it again and still came back with the same verdict even though you saw Froch do more this time around

Yeah, my score doesn't change objectively, but it went from "115-112 for Dirrell, could be even wider" to "115-112 for Dirrell, but I guess if you really, really wanted to you could make a case for Froch."

      What was your score?

        A reasonable card.

What was yours, man? I was surprised at how some of the rounds were closer than I'd expected. Many of them Dirrell was doing nothing offensively while Froch was landing a little. Although Dirrell's defense was something to see - in the main - if you're not landing any punches you're not winning the rounds, sadly.

I don't think any fighter did enough to clearly win the fight. So an SD either way or a draw is justifiable.

Dirrell lost, and now it is time to get over it, just like Dirrell has and planning for his next fignt.

If you have no interest in engaging with the thread, then why read and post in it?

I had pretty much the same card, except I gave Froch the 6th, and Dirrell the 8th.
