I like Paul Williams but what I don't get about him is...

why does he think he is "owed" a big fight at this point of his career. He calls out all these other big name boxers, and when they don't want to fight him, he considers them "ducking" him. I just feel he forgets that these boxers have earned their status by building their resume with quality opponents.

Floyd, Manny, Cotto, Mosley and other big name boxers had to go through quality opposition before the stars actually responded to their request for a fight with them. I guess Paul thinks he is above this.

Before Floyd got Oscar...he had to go through Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Judah and other mid-level/ top contenders to atleast establish a name for himself. Same with Cotto and others.

I like Paul, but outside of Margarito who has he beaten? These are all quality guys that could help build his resume and better help his chances of landing a big fight. In fact all of these guys are more than willing to fight him.

    Guys like:
    Joshua Clottey
    Sergio Martinez
    Corey Spinks
    Daniel Santos
    Kermit Cintron
    Felix Sturm @160

Not only do I think he beats those guys...but If he dominates them like I think he does, then he will get just about any big fight he wants.

Paul Williams is desperate for the spotlight. He'll get there, but he has to be patient or else no one will want to fight him.

He rematched Quintana and K.O'd him in the 1st. Dominated Vernon Phillips, shut out Winky. What does he have to do then? Clottey? Quintana? Where does that take him?

I agree with you, he needs to put him in a better position. The cancelation of the Pavlik's fight hurts him, he needed that one in order to get the big names, now he seems to be in limbo, he should fight one of those guys on your list but Spinks, that would make him look bad.

Come on, man. If Cotto had beaten Margarito, would you feel he hadn't earned a big fight? Williams has won titles in two divisions and because he can find no takers, is usually left to fight the other guys people won't get in the ring with. Maybe he's sick of it? I also believe his time will come - if his defense doesn't ruin him first - but if there's any fighter who deserves a crack at the spotlight, it's Paul Williams.

verno phillips is garbage and winky is a good win. The thing is if you look at every big name fighter, they had to fight several good name fighters before they were able to land big fights. Since I know your a Floyd fan, even after he ran through Corrales and other SFW he still had to continue to beat other solid fighter before he got his big fights. Paul needs to beat a few other sold fighters first. Ill give him Margarito and Winky but that is it.

LOL. Corrales-Mayweather wasn't a big fight. There were about 20 people in attendance. They were just willing to fight each other. That's all it takes.

yeah but you dont think Martinez, Clottey and Cintron aren't quality opponents for him. These guys would love to fight him but he declines. Its almost as if that unless It is a superstar, Paul wont fight them. Im sorry, but he is in no position to do that especially considering he weak resume.
